“another great stay”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

This is our third year in a row at the Victorian with our son. He is now 3. We always get the two room efficiency. The place is clean, located perfectly, great kiddie pool and just all around worth every penny. We'll be back. I know now to bring a night light for the bathroom b/c there is only one switch that turns on the light and the fan together, and it's noisy in the middle of the night, epsecially if you have a light sleep in the room.

Room Tip: bring a night light for the bathroom

Once again my family had a thoroughly enjoyable vacation at the Victorian Motel in Cape May. beautiful pool, wonderful location, and comfortable rooms. Pleasant view from any room, and close to the beach! Even great towels! Cant wait to schedule again soon!

We come to Cape May every year at this time and always stay at the Victorian Motel because of its great location and reasonable rates. The owner is so nice and the staff are very accommodating. The rooms are always immaculate and this place will remain our first choice to stay!

Room Tip: First floor rooms are sometimes noisy with returning late-night folks.

I'd read many of these reviews before I booked at the Victorian Motel. They were pretty much spot on. The location is great (although with 2 toddlers and a load of beach stuff, it is one long block to walk to the beach) and the room is older, but clean. There were two things I wish they did differently: First is use fitted sheets on the bed. They use flat sheets for the mattress that just barely cover it, so if you pull the covers up as you sleep the bottom of the sheets come up and then you're sleeping directly on the mattress. Eeewww. The second thing is that if you stay in a suite, there is only an air conditioner in the front room, none in the bedroom. We stayed when it was relatively cool out and the front room was still freezing cold just to get the back bedroom tolerable for sleeping. My kids were huddled under blankets or wearing jackets just to sit in the front room. (I can't imagine how cold it would have to be if it were actually hot outside.) It would be great if they would invest in air conditioners for the bedrooms. Other than that, it was a good stay.

We stayed here over the Memorial Day weekend (2 adults/2 children). We'd stayed in a beach-front motel the previous summer and had not been impressed. Booked The Victorian on the recommendation of friends...and we were glad we did! So different to the 'motel' experience we had the year before!
We love Cape May so it was fantastic to stay in amongst everything. You are very close to the beach and right on top of all the best shops and restaurants.
The motel has complimentary parking (1 space per car). There's a nice pool - divides in two so you have a child's wading pool and a deeper adult pool. Pool is not heated so if you're going on a chilly weekend (like we did) it really isn't warm enough to go in! On normal hot summer days though its probably perfect and there are plenty of sun loungers and tables with umbrellas around the pool area.
Rooms are fairly basic but tastefully decorated and very clean. Each room has a small kitchen area (with stove, fridge and microwave) and a dining area with table which is more than big enough for a family of 4.
We had a king size bed (huge and comfy!). We also had a roll out bed, which we used. It seemed very new and was very easy to pull out and store away again.
Maid service daily to make beds and empty the garbage. Staff were also very pleasant on arrival and departure.
All in all a lovely experience. Great value in somewhere as nice as Cape May where hotel accommodation can be on the pricey side. We can see why this place has such great reviews on Trip Advisor and will definitely return!

We have been staying here every Christmas season to attend the merchants night with all the stores kicking off the holiday season. Love this hotel. Nothing fancy and not your typical Victorian inn! But it is so clean, very nice room, rates are very reasonable, excellent location (at the end of merchants square) plus they allow you to stay one night!! Which is hard to find in this resort town. Every other place we called required a 2 night minimum. Highly recommend this motel!

For years we've been going to Cape May in the month of May so we can enjoy the uniqueness of this charming town (not to mention birdwatching, for which Cape May is famous) without the throngs of people who show up in the summer. We've stayed at a few different inns near the Congress Hall (Virginia Hotel, Star Inn), as well as at the Congress Hall itself, because we like the location. But as the Congress Hall has been renovated and has acquired these nearby inns, their rates have skyrocketed to what we consider to be ridiculous levels for what they offer. The Victorian Motel, which is adjacent to the Congress Hall, seems to have resisted its grasp as well as the temptation to jack up the rates to unreasonable levels (at least before Memorial Day). The motel is not particularly charming but it is very well maintained. Rooms are spacious and clean (though some are musty, so check it out before you take it) and the furnishings are basic but adequate. Our only complaint was that the otherwise comfortable bed had a plastic mattress cover, which we found to be annoying. Parking can be a problem in Cape May, but spaces are available for guests along the perimeter of the motel. Parking is thus free and very convenient (there are adequate numbers of spaces, at least when we stay at the motel). The staff are pleasant and accommodating. Although there is no restaurant at the motel, Uncle Bill's Pancake House is great for breakfast and just a short walk from the motel. Plus in the afternoon you can buy a drink at the Congress Hall and enjoy it on a rocking chair with a nice view of the ocean. When we go to Cape May, we are eager to enjoy the outside and spend little time in our room. At the price it charges and with the care it receives, the Victorian Motel serves our needs very well and remains our first choice for accommodations.
