The 199 steps are worth the view. And the special tours MAC does - by moonlight, the ghost and the trolley tours out to the lighthouse are particularly good - views the average person never gets to see.

“Family friendly”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Fun for all ages. Bring your binoculars and a picnic lunch, as there is a covered gazebo overlooking the ocean and a generous bird-watching deck. Tour the lighthouse with one of the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, then have the kids ( or yourself) shop for a souvenir book, coloring book, cards and collectables to remember your visit to the lighthouse. There is a nature museum at the state park with sea specimens under glass to help you identify some of the shells or creatures you may have seen on the beach or trail walk. Aquariums may have turtles, snakes or similar native animal exhibits. Plenty of parking. I suggest you delegate 2-3 hours in your trip planning to enjoy all this state park has to offer.

“Lovely”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I've done it many times as I live down here and the view on a clear day is amazing. There are 199 steps and it is a little cramped, but well worth the climb.

“Great for the whole family...ride your bike out!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Busy road but lots of folks ride out on their bike. Really nice park for the whole family. Climb the lighthouse or just take pictures. Visit the beach overlook and enjoy a nice day. (Open during bad weather days, too)

“Closed for the Season on Friday anyway”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

Its a nice off trip to the lighthouse, most of the people we on the hiking trails and bird observation decks. Came back later at night 5pm to see the light house in operation, I think the light is just for show. The lighthouses we have visited along the East Coast are very bright. It still was worth the excursion.
