The aquarium's ballyhooed renovation has turned a small but decent aquarium into a kiddy attraction that happens to contain fish. The new layout expertly hoses parental pockets by positioning gift shops and snack counters everywhere, but lacks adequate lighting to read signs explaining exhibits. In some cases, exhibit signs are missing altogether, or are just bright, poster-like burbles of enthusiasm like "See The Seahorses!" There are a few bright spots, like the new tunnel where the sharks glide overhead, and the hippos are interesting. But overall, this aquarium seems to have abandoned it's educational mission.

We visited the New Jersey Adventure Aquarium on a recent winter Sunday (mid-day). I was unsure if our 1 1/2 year old would really be able to see much, but this aquarium is set up so well for even the youngest visitors to see most everything. Some of the viewing areas go right to the floor, so kids can get a really close view of the "fishies".

Tickets are time stamped (meaning a limited number of visitors can enter during each hour), and on the winter day we attended the aquarium was not at capacity. Some passage ways are a bit narrow, so I might be hesitant to visit on a very busy summer weekend.

Parking $7.00. Children under 2 are free.

A great family day!

Went to the Camden Adventure Aquarium with my wife and kids over the Christmas holiday while visiting my family, had never been there before. We really enjoyed the visit! We were told the place had been renovated and expanded recently, and most of the inside areas seemed really nicely designed and decorated. The outdoor areas with the Penguins and Sea Lions were alright but they could use some renovations themselves. It looked like there were some other outdoor areas but they were possibly closed for the winter.

One of the things in the Aquarium is a "3-D" adventure ride (SPOILER ALERT: skip to the next paragraph if you don't want to know what's in it). This is a stadium style seating theater where you view a 3-D movie while wearing plastic 3-D viewing glasses. The movie is pretty cheesy but has even more cheesy moving seats that also can blast air and water mist that add to the "cheeseliciousness" of the whole thing. I think they used surplus roller coaster simulation ride equipment for this, and the motion does not really match the supposed underwater ride theme of the movie.

My kids thought it was OK, but I believe it was an extra charge from the main aquarium admission (we were treated so I don't know) and I would have been dissapointed if I had paid any significant amount for it.

The aquarium has tons of different fish and displays, sharks, penguins, sea lions, and even a couple of Hippos to see. There are different presentations going on throughout the day, and we caught the penguin show which was entertaining, though it was basically an informative comedy skit done while the pengiuns were being fed in the enclosure - nothing interactive or featuring any behaviors by the pengiuns.

The shark tank area is terrific, with a part where you walk through a tunnel with the sharks all around you. And for the adventuresome, they have a great deal where you can pay to actually swim in the shark aquarium and get to feed some of the other creatures there like the Manta Rays, which I plan on going back and doing some day.

I must warn all parents that the renovation designers were diabolically clever in making the shark tank area "one way" and it ends up dumping you in an incredibly large gift shop. Secure your wallets before you reach this tempting area!!

Our kids really liked everything, and had a good time. The only thing we weren't too happy about was the very slow lines in the cafeteria and the lack of seating, which we couldn't understand given that where was lots of unused floor area!

Overall, I highly recommend this attraction, which is great by itself or as part of a family visit to Philadelphia.

The adventure aquarium is located just across the river from Philly in the city of Camden New Jersey. Though finding it isn't the easiest task in the world, it's well worth the drive. The aquarium is amazing and has many, many attractions including lots of hands on exhibits. My 3 daughters, ages 1, 4, and 6 all had a blast. The only drawback is that everybody seems to know how awesome this place is because it was packed. They do sell tickets with specific entry times though, I assume to reduce the crowding. They just finished a huge remodel at this aquarium and added an enormous hippopotamus tank as well as lots of other stuff. My daughters enjoyed being able to pet sharks and starfish. The shark tank was a little too deep for the 4 year old though, she wasn't able to reach far enough down to actually touch the animals without falling in. The aquarium has an outdoor area as well with penguins (you can see them being fed) and a sea lion tank. Overall, our family loves this place. As with almost all attractions, the food and souvenirs are expensive. We are from Wisconsin, but visit New Jersey 1-3 times a year and we always make a point of visiting this Aquarium!

What a surprise this aquarium was! From the outside look of it, we almost bypassed this attractions but so glad we didn't. Somewhat pricey at 17/adults. There is one of the largest and best shark tanks we have been too. You walk through it, beside it, around it - get to see from every angle! You can pay $115 to be able to swim in the shark tank if you dare.... Overall, was sort of a lot of walking, could be a problem for small children or elderly. The 4D theater was disappointing - bad digital animation and very short. Also, it is somewhat scary for smaller children - they don't really warn you and there were a lot of frightened children. Would have skipped it and the extra $2 if we had known. The touch tank and seals/penguins were disappointing as well. Lots of variety in the regular aquarium sections, not just regular fish but an Amazon waterfall, frogs, jellyfish, etc. Overall it was fun and I think most families will enjoy it.
