“A Restoration Like No Other”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

I was lucky enough to stay at the Inn while we completed a habitat enhancement project on the section of the South Branch of the Raritan River that flows through the Inn's property. The restoration and enhancement to the river now matches the restoration of the property. The history, artifacts, and restoration of the Inn were incredible. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and exploring the property during our off hours. We all agreed the most memorable thing of our stay was John the Innkeeper. He greeted us with a very welcoming smile that set us at ease for the remainder of our stay. John it was great getting to know you after work and listening to good old time country music. Thanks for everything(breakfasts, excavator operations, etc.) and if you ever want to escape to Montana you have my number.

Lance,
What a neat friendship that has developed! Even though the distance between Montana and New Jersey is great, you're always welcome to come back and sit on the back porch and listen to some down-home country music. Watch for me in Montana!
It was a pleasure to serve you and the rest of the guys!
Best,
John

Relaxing long weekend for our honeymoon - caught up on some much needed rest, walked along the Columbia Trail to the Ken Lockwood Gorge, and went out to some local eateries. Each morning we rose to a wonderful breakfast feast - omelettes, french toast, and belgium waffles! We even enjoyed the beautiful picnic lunch which we arranged with the Inn - it was so nice to enjoy our own private lunch outside. Afterwards, we played a couple of games of horsheshoes and took a nap outside along the stream.

Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your honeymoon - what an honor! I'm so glad you enjoyed the picnic with the lovely view from the barn. Perhaps we'll see you again on your anniversary!

My daughter found this wonderful B & B in Califon Nj that was amazing. We arrived on Friday and the place is magnificent. This is amazing being it had been abandon for over 20 years. The restoration they did gives each room it's own bathroom so no sharing which is great. The grounds are beautiful and there's an old barn that's also been restored, makes for a great dancefloor. the original house 1800"s house is in the basement and is set up as a game room, which was great fun for the Groomsmen and groom before the ceremony.
The owners have done a fine job of choosing a caretaker who makes you feel at home, John was there anytime we needed anything which made the Wedding setup fun and uneventful. There's plenty of parking being they have an adjoining field for event guests and the whole atmosphere was calming. The weather was great and we had a Bon fire and fun after the ceremony.
We used Redwoods in Chester to cater the event and I have to say the tasting like it came straight frm the restaurants kitchen. Jim the event manager was also a pleasure to deal with, his staff couldn't do enough for us. So if your throwing a party I'd highly recommend Redwoods and their catering staff. Thanks for making my daughters day complete!
Although I live in Jersey this is definitely a place I'd stay for a weekend with a change of pace! Thanks again John for all your help and great breakfast creation each morning, it felt like being at home rather then in a hotel.

Recently, we stayed at the Raritan Inn in Califon, NJ-what a special place! We had high praise for John, the Inn keeper. He was the perfect host. Our room was of the highest quality. It was very charming and it had all that you would want from a B&B. Our breakfast was excellent(John even brought us a pot of coffee as we sat outside admiring the beauitul grounds-that is real CLASS!) We enjoyed every apsect of staying at a B&B-wonderful service, great accommondations, beautiful grounds and the opportunity to meet some very interesting people. I would highly recommend the Raritan Inn whenever you are near Califon, NJ.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Morris room-very nice!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful compliments. I hope you had a wonderful anniversary. I really enjoyed getting to know you and Helen. I am so glad you got a chance to take a walk and enjoy our beautiful grounds. We recently spotted a bald eagle and a Baltimore oriole! The next time you visit you must do a picnic lunch in the meadow along the mill race. Until next time have a great summer.

My family recently traveled to New Jersey for a funeral, and our previous experience with the only hotel within 10 miles was beyond awful. Terrifying, even. So, this time we were cautiously optimistic about the Raritan Inn, which wasn't open last time we were there.

We arrived late to a wonderfully rustic, restored house, all rooms are highly upgraded, the kitchen is top-notch, bathrooms are gorgeous. It has a cozy unique feel, and it felt warm and friendly inside. The innkeeper is a wonderful man named Jon, who joined us for a drink when we arrived. Wonderful conversation over a glass of wine, and we felt as at home as you can when you're in another state for a funeral.

The rooms were spotless, and each had their own charm. It's eco friendly, and on a gorgeous property, complete with a river and barn that apparently has been host to many weddings and events.

The absolute highlight was getting to meet the chickens that are on the property. Jon takes such great care of them and the property, he is the true heart and soul of the Inn. He absolutely made our stay wonderful. Oh, and his omelette was amazing.

Booked a Sunday night in the Warren Room ("the honeymoon suite") based on the great reviews here. The owner, Bill, was on hand when we arrived and gave us a personal tour of the house even though they were in the middle of a wedding information open house. His enthusiasm for the place was evident and his knowledge of the area and the history is extensive and interesting.

John, the innkeeper, is a treasure. Always smiling, and genuinely happy to meet us and make our stay great, he also makes a mean spinach omelet.

We were in the Warren Room this time, but after looking at the rest of the rooms, I might go with the Hunterdon room next time - it faces the back of the property instead of the front and gets morning sunlight, which I generally prefer. But ALL the rooms were absolutely gorgeous (since we were the only guests that night, we got to check them all out!).

If we can, we will certainly stay here again. Might be great to snowshoe on their large field in the wintertime!

Room Tip: Warren is giant and has a wonderful spa tub. A bit of a tight squeeze for 2 but you can do it. Fac...
