Great place for a really good italian meal. Freshly baked bread served warm with olive oil and grated parmesan cheese (YUM!). Excellent salads and daily specials. I had the shrimp risotto, it was excellent. Good wine selection and they even allow you a sample. If you don't want to eat dessert right away, a copy of your receipt is worth 20% off the bakery goods. Take a nice stroll around the wine store and deli then end up at the bakery for scrupmtious dessert. Near the deli has cappuccino bar too.

What fun is this place, had to buy the pepperoni bread to take home You can just come for a pie and a glass of wine, but we had made the reservation DO IT , and ate in the formal dining room, they also have a bar area where a young man played his guitar. Very noisy in there. They have a party room that sits about 25-30 which is great, and off the main door way.
But take the time to see the extensive food products that are guarenteed Italian.
Well known in the neighbor a family tradition at 234 bloofmield ave. We got there at 7 with a reservation and still had to wait 25 minutes, the kitchen was slow
the veal saltibucca was great, but did not come with a salad they charge about 6 for a small side salad, but the bread came with fresh oil and grated parmesan at your table.
enjoy , great for families for sure. Outfdoor seating in the better weather with MUSIC!

You can find Calandra bread at many of the New Jersey area supermarkets. If you go to their restaurants they will give you a loaf of bread. There is the regular French, Italian and Semolina loafs, but there is also the cheese stuffed breads. It's very fresh.

It is always wonderful to find a great bakery but to find outstanding bread as well makes it a real find. We stopped by on a Saturday outing and before buying anything looked around the new store in Caldwell. A large restauarnt and deli/cafe and pizza station and of course the retail outlet selling imported Italian product. as well as fresh breads and pastries.

We stopped for a couple of slices to get before shopping. Fortunately, we did not let that stop us. The two slices were keep under heat lamps, and were limp and chewy. They could have been improved by taking the time to heat them up. The flavor was okay but definitely a down note. The services was friendly but try the deli counter which has fresh made soups...

On the the bakery, we started with selection of small pastries all of which looked very appealing. The napoleon was crispy with nice creme anglais. The lemon tart has a good short crust with a very tart lemon custard filing with small fleck of peel. We tried the chocolate cannoli and the plain. The chocolate was crispy with a bland creme center whereas the plain had a nice hint of the recotta filing. A tiramatsu cake was fresh, looked pretty but was rather lackluster flavor.

We has a hard time choosing from the bread section as there are many varieties and sizes. We chose a large twist Italian loaf with seasame seed and 5 small italian dinner rolls. It was a short 2 minute walk to the car but the first roll did not make it out of the parking lot alive. A second one almost met the same fate except for super human restraint. The roll was fresh and doughy on the inside with a crackle crust on top and a semolina encrust chewy bottom. It was a 30 minute drive home, before the second roll was being devoured.

The large twist load had a very thick crusty top with delicious fresh seasame seed on top. The firm doughy center made for good bed for a sandwich and the thick chewy bottom was also a delight.

Definitely worth a 1/2h drive to get such bread.

Absolutely the best food and service ever! Went Monday evening - had no idea they had a 4 course special - Appetizer, house salad, choice of 4 entrees, dessert and coffee - $39.99. Positively delicious fried ravioli & eggplant rollatini, salad, melt in your mouth chicken marsala, coffee and choice of dessert shooters - Tiramisu etc. Definitely had sufficient leftovers for another meal plus salad. Looking forward to a return visit!
