Belmar Beach and Boardwalk
Ranked #2 of 20 things to do in Belmar
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Went there on a Saturday afternoon-evening with my family and enjoyed walking on the new boardwalk (without parking meters!), but was surprised to see the trash left everywhere. The "food block" was a complete mess. Seemed like people ate and drank, then walked away. The Dunkin' Donuts was especially bad, every table was sticky, and by evening they were out of donuts. So we decided to go for ice cream, and wound up paying $5 a cone, ouch. It was very hot in the ice cream place, so we went outside, but we couldn't find a place to sit, so we thought we'd sit on a boardwalk bench... and couldn't find one. Finally we spotted one near a rest room, but it was occupied before we could get there. I advise anyone going there to bring a bag and take home your trash. Maybe a summer Saturday is not a good day to go.

I only live 5 minutes away and finally decided to see the improvements. I drove through 3 other beach towns and yup! Belmar is the best, and always was. Boardwalk - completed. Portable bathrooms - done. New & improved landscaping - on its way & will look A+.when complete. The beach fees are resonable alos. $50 season, $7.00 a day, Senior Cit - $15 for the season. Always clean and always makes you fel like you are on vacation (even though I only live 5 minutes away!)

Memorial Day was beautiful. I walked the new boardwalk, which is complete, but still lacking railings. The restaurants which were on the ocean side if the boardwalk, are now operating from trailer kitchens. For example, Jake's Crab is purveying its excellent crab cakes, but there are no tables or even benches to sit and eat.

Parking was decent. Boardwalk and beach are well maintained. Patrons were considerate allowing for an excellent day at the beach.
