“A perfect wedding”
Reviewed June 16, 2010

Our daughter had her wedding reception at the Gables. The food was terrific and plentiful, the service was excellent, and the owner was very accomodating. I would highly recommend the Gables to other young couples who are looking for a romantic and out of the ordinary venue for their weddings. We have received nothing but compliments about the delicious food and even the wedding photographers were impressed with the location. The Gables is a Victorian manse that has been lovingly restored by the owner Sondra.
Since the Gables is also a B&B, the wedding families can stay there. It's so convenient. There's a garden out back where we had our cocktail hour and enough room for a guitarist and DJ. There was plenty of room for dancing post dinner. Even if you're not getting married, go and enjoy the food and atmosphere. You won't be sorry.

“Horribly disappointing! Don't go.”
Reviewed June 26, 2009

My husband and I were celebrating a very special occassion. We had a 7:30 reservation. We were seated on the lovely porch next to the very overgrown front garden. We were given two different menus by the owner. It took 15 minutes for the waiter and owner to find the correct one. We ordered the tasting menu at $75.00 pp. Our amuse boush was given to a neighboring table that did not order the tasting menu. 45 minutes after we were seated, our amuse boush was delivered. 15 minutes later the first course soup which was tasteless was served, 20 minutes later, the waiter said, the risotto would be out soon and apolgized for the wait. My husband pointed out that there was a salad course that had not yet been served. The waiter seemed confused, disappeared only to reappear 10 minutes later with the salad course. Then the lemon shrimp rissoto was served. Instead of chopped shrimp in the rissoto to give it some flavor, two grilled shrimp were on a skewer on top of the plate. Another wait of 20 minutes and the bland, tasteless fillet minigon was served. It was luke warm and completly tastless. I asked the waiter for some horse radish because the fillet was not seasoned at all. He returned 10 minutes later with some horse radish and a small thimble of wine reduction which made the fillet eatable. About this time every ravenous bug living in the overgrown garden decided to feast on us. I had six bites, my husband three. We asked to be moved away. As it was now 10 pm, we were the only customers still there, they quickly moved us to a different table. We ate what we could of the fillet wanting to save room for the crepes suzette. The coffee came out first. When the coffee had been drunk and no refills offered, the thick, heavy, crepes which had been prepared in the kitchen, not table side were seved luke warm. It was now 10:30 and we had been there a torturous three hours. Somewhere throughout this horrible dinner, we expected but did not receive an apology from the owner. The service was non existant, the food bland and unseasoned, and the overgrown garden full of biting insects who ate much better than we did at our expense. Do yourself a favor and give this one a miss.

“dont go”
Reviewed July 4, 2008

i am a 3.5 star restaurant chef.the food all six of us were served was a poor version of banquet food.the plates were sloppy, lacked any hint of seasoning and were nyc priced.my 12 year old son commented that his ceasar salad was tastlessand his crabecakes advertised as jumbo lump were not (40 dollars)my beef wellington was a disaster on the plate.i was so excited to take my family here, but left very down.this is a constructive review please take it as one.i serve food in an attempt to have people come back, not to treat them like tourists.i am sorry to give this review but such a beautiful restaurant should have food to match.please show the chef this review ,i feel he needs to show his advertised talents much better.
