We stayed just one night at the Bentley Inn but the owner was very nice and welcoming. The location is excellent - a few blocks from the beach. The breakfast was hearty and made to order. We used the adequate outdoor facilities on the day we were leaving so that we could squeeze in an extra day at the beach. Our room was fine with good A/C and space. The BI is a good place to stay if in the Bay Head area.

Room Tip: Our room with private bath was worth the extra dollars.

My wife and I have been doing our mid-summer "anniversary" long weekend here for 5 years. (this summer was 35th! ) Glenn is very accommodating Innkeeper. Nice to have a menu selection for breakfast. Staff is efficient and friendly. Bay Head is nice and quiet beach. - less than 2 blocks away. Convenient deli a few blocks north. If staying - I recommend the Shipwreck restaurant in Brielle, about 10 min. north on 35, just under the northeast side of the Brielle Bridge. -- Decor/setting not bad - and the food is Excellent!--

Thank you for the nice comments. I need to make it clear to future guests that beach badges are returned with the keys at check-out at 11am. If you would like to use the beach after check-out, daily beach badges can be purchased for $7 apiece at the B.H.I.A. which is located 3 block from us. You are welcome to use our outdoor showers and the hall lavatory all day on the day of departure. This is actually a money savings over traveling to a different town and paying for badges, parking and bathhouses. Our beaches are clean and quiet. Please note that room 6 actually does have a private bath.

This bed and breakfast is clean, could use a bit more sprucing up, but the beach is the lure that brings you here, and that is stupendous. I'd say this is a very fine place for the area, and it would be difficult to find a better B&B or hotel in Bay Head.

The towels and toiletry items are passable. There is a nice big breakfast, including waffles, french toast, eggs, etc.

You have to ask for towels for the beach, and they also give you beach tags (but ask you to return them before 1pm on the day you check out so you can't stay at the beach any longer than that). They have beach chairs you can carry to the beach, but they are old and rusty (we brought our own).

Theresa's South Restaurant is a walkable distance away, and I'd highly recommend it for a terrific meal. The delicatessen next door sells wine, so you can buy your vino (since all restaurants are BYOB in Bay Head apparently).

NOTE Bay Head has strict beach rules - no beach toys, no liquor, no frizbees, no food and no beverages of any kind except bottled water.

Room Tip: On the second floor, room 6 and 7 are in the back , so not facing the road. Room six does not have...

Just one block from best beach on Jersey Shore, this is an oldie but a goodie. The breakfast and service are first rate. They provide coffee and tea and a snack throughout the day which was lovely. Glen, the innkeeper is most gracious and accomodating. The outdoor shower is not to be missed. And they provide bikes and beach chairs, which was wonderful. The rooms are cozy and very clean. We had one with a bathroom, which is key. The decor could likely use a make-over, but is partially in-keeping with Victorian style, though the front two rooms really need to be de-cluttered. The porch wasn't up to its promise as the dreary plastic chairs would best be replaced by white wicker ones which would add a lot of character.

Room Tip: Rooms in the rear are quiet

Thank you for the kind comments. The staff and I work very hard to make our guests comfortable and cleanliness is our top priority. I agree that wicker would be a better choice for keeping in character with the inn. The problem is that the maintenance/replacement cost is high in the salt air so we opted for very durable Adirondack style plastic chairs which actually are quite comfortable and, of course durable.

My wife and I were looking to spend some quiet time in a quiet setting on the New Jersey Shore. If you havent made it to Bayhead, you should give this roughly 1.5 mile stretch of coastal beach a try and make sure you stay at The Bentley Inn. This B and B sits a block away from the very private Bayhead beach. Glenn and Janet will give you a beach pass and you can swim and sun with the locals. After a day at the beach, walk back to the Bentley and enter one of two outdoor showers complete with shampoo and conditioner and body wash, and if you need towels Glenn wil provide them. You can hang dry your salty beach wear on their clothesline. Becoming a beach bum is easy at the Bentley Inn. Next up, are the rooms. The Bentley is a Victorian home built around 80 years ago. The home keeps with the tradition of Bayhead. It is not what we would call luxury or modern, but it is cozy and has window air conditioners, and above all it is spotless! Room service comes in each day to clean.

What we really enjoyed was the breakfast each day, in the downstairs dining room. Breakfast is included, and you have a real nice choice. Omelets, French toast, bacon, sausage, cereal, hash browns. The food is really good, and Glenn keeps the kitchen open from 7 to 1030...just what the doctor ordered for rest and relaxation on a beach vacation.

We also enjoyed the fresh coffee and iced coffee they put on each day. Along with iced water, and an ice maker that is all located in one area. It makes for a really pleasant environment, and you get to engage with other vacationers at the house since the set up caters to entertaining guests. If you want solitude, just go upstairs to the wrap around porch and you'll find it.

Thanks Glenn and Janet for a wonderful stay over the 4 th of July weekend. We will definately return.

Room Tip: Noises were not a problem here if you are a light sleeper. But I do suggest a room on the third floo...

Thank you once again for the kind words, it is greatly appreciated. I would like to make clear that the kitchen is actually open from 8:30am to 10:00am (with fresh coffee starting at 6:30am). Don't want to mislead anyone. Thank you

A late review, but I feel the need to write one, since I've been using Tripadvisor so often to check places out.

I stayed here on Valentine's day 2011 (we ate dinner at the Labrador Lounge) and had a great time. I booked our stay over the phone, and had no issues doing so. I live in Toms River, but my girlfriend and I came down from Belleville, NJ for the night. It was winter, so there weren't many guests. It was quiet and peaceful. Winter Rates are very reasonable. There is a parking lot on the side of the building, so you don;t have to find street parking. Our room was great, comfortable bed. The bathroom was OK, shower was somewhat small.

The breakfast was great. Almost anything you would normally have for breakfast was available. The whole experience was great.

Room Tip: Room 15 "Jacob Tyler"
