“Great view from the top of the lighthouse”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

We biked here from Ship Bottom to see the lighthouse. There was a short loop trail near the visitors center which had signs explaining some of the plants in the area. Near the lighthouse is a walkway that goes out towards the water where you can look back towards the lighthouse.

You can walk up the 217 steps to reach the top of the lighthouse for some great scenic 360 degree views. It sounded like a lot of steps but the walk up was not too bad. There is a fee for going inside the lighthouse of $3.00.

“Old Barney!”
Reviewed June 18, 2014 via mobile

Beautiful lighthouse with a very interesting history. The interpretive center was very informative with a very good video describing the life and issues of the lighthouse(s). We didn't climb the stairs, however the walks surrounding the lighthouse were pleasant views of the area

“Husband went up to see the lens at the top...”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

I dont like heights but there was plenty to see at the base of the lighthouse. Lovely walk way built out over the water and plenty of National Park signs to tell about the flora and fauna. The lighthouse according to my spouse, had interesting brickwork and yellow metal spiral stairs (about 200 of them) to the top. I could see him when he got there, and there is a 360 degree caged-in view from there. The museum tells all about Gen. Meade (Civil War fame) and the details about the lens and previous lighthouses at this site. Very informative. Nice for kids, too. Free Parking in the lot.

“Lighthouse and the shore!!”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

If you are in the area this is a must see! The park is so nice and the lighthouse is just beautiful! And, there's a walk way around the lighthouse and it extends out along the shore! Nothing negative!!

“A must see”
Reviewed May 15, 2014

A beautiful lighthouse with great views! Entrance to the park is free, if you want to climb up to top of the lighthouse it costs a dollar. The view from the top of the lighthouse is great-you can see Island Beach State Park to the north, Long Beach Island to the south, Barnegat Bay to the west and of course the ocean to the east. The Barnegat Inlet is very busy so you will see boats going in and out constantly. If you don't want to climb the lighthouse you can walk along the inlet which is also very scenic. You can also fish there, but there is no swimming. There are bathroom facilities in the park and nearby are several places to eat.
