Great place to spend the day at the Jersey Beach. It is located on the north end of Long Beach Island. Bathrooms on site, picnic area, beach access, cement walk way by the inlet. If you like to fish bring your pole there are many people who fish off the rocks along the inlet. You can walk to the top of the lightlight house for a buck or two. There are a few local restaurants right need the lighthouse which are perfect for a breakfast or lunch.

Unspoiled and natural. Not recommended for those with limited mobility, but if your up for the walk this is spectacular!

Barnegat Lighthouse is found at the northern tip of Long Beach Island in the tiny seashore village of Barnegat Light. The regal red and white beacon is one of the tallest in the country and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, Barnegat Inlet and Barnegat Bay also offering great views of Island Beach State Park, the whole of Long Beach Island and on a clear day, Atlantic City -- some 30 miles away. What is really nice is that the top has a camera so if you can't climb the 20+ steps, you can still enjoy the magnificient views in the interpretative center which you pass walking to the lighthouse. Stop there first as there is a visual guide of the water fowl that frequent the area and it will help you identify them. In the winter, the area is known for visits from the colorful Harlequin ducks. There is a barrier free concret walkway along the inlet where the waterfowl like to visit. You'll probably see birds you've never seen before if you live inland. The Friends of the Lighthouse are very friendly and helpful volunteers who offer free programs throughout the year usually on nature or maritime themes. The interpretative center also tells the history of the lighthouse. There are picnic tables at the foot of the lighthouse, so bring lunch or dinner. If you didn't, the "Off the Hook'" Restaurant on the bayside in Viking Village sells fresh seafood (and more for land lubbers) The inlet is a little testy so its interesting and frequently exciting to watch the recreational boat and commercial fishing fleet go in and out. If you like to fish, bring your gear as you can fish from the concrete walkway. Make sure you are registered with the state of New Jersey (www. state.nj.us). It's free and can be done via computer. It is free to entering the park, park, visit the interpreative center and climb the lighthouse in the off season. Durin the sumemr, it's $1.
