“Nice, low-key place to stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2010

We enjoyed our stay at the North Shore Inn. It is definitely nothing fancy, but the room was clean and pleasant, well-maintained by the cleaning staff, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. I was alarmed to read the very negative review below but can assure people there were no roaches at this hotel - it is clean and well looked-after. We had a kitchenette in the room which was helpful for quick snacks, and plenty of great breakfast places nearby. Next time, I might choose a place to stay which has more pleasant outdoor space, but I didn't see many places like this in the area. It is relatively bare-bones, but again, a nice place to stay if you are going to be spending most of your time at the beautiful beaches nearby or eating out at the many restaurants around. I did find the beds to be too hard, however, which many people don't mind but this did not agree with my back very well.

i was warned not to stay here but i was out of options and wished i would have stayed on the main land and fought traffic to get back on the island. We noticed a lot of cock roaches and were forced to cut our trip short. We also noticed that the owner was smoking marijuana in the back off the office. His eyes were really red and the stench carried through the office.

My partner and I have stayed at the North Shore Inn for the past 6 years, always for one week in September. We have been very satisfied there because it is only one block from the beach and is close to a diner and Kubel's restaurant as well as the lighthouse and some fantastic scenery at the quiet end of Long Beach Island. We have stayed in both the standard rooms and the efficiencies and found both accomodations to be very clean and comfortable. The efficiencies are adequately equipped with refrigerator, microwave and stove top range and the TV has plenty of cable channels. The staff is always pleasant and friendly. Our only disappointment with the Inn is that for such a lovely location, the front windows only face out onto the driveway/court and the noise of guests driving in and out and talking in that area can be disturbing. Also, the windows in the back of the units do not really open much or have much of a view, so there is a slight claustrophobic, dark, stuffy feeling to the rooms (the front windows do not open at all and one must keep the drapes closed at all times because people can look in). Otherwise, this is the best place to stay at this end of the island in our opinion.

My family of 4 just stayed there the first weekend of August 2009 and had a good experience. We have 2 young kids and did a 1 room efficiency with the dividing wall. The room was nothing fancy, but it was clean and met our basic needs. We enjoyed having a small dining area and kitchen too. For the price, I don't think you can beat it on the island. It was great being in the "quieter" part of the island.

The owners are very nice and helpful. They let us change rooms when we couldn't get our computer to hook to the internet. The room was very comfortable and clean.

I spent all my summers at Barnegat as a kid and remember when the was called the Sea Splash Motel. It was empty for many years before being refurbished and reopened in 1998 by the present owners, who are a very friendly and welcoming couple. The motel front with the marlin is a Barnegat Light icon.

The motel is an older property, but it is well maintained and very clean. All of the downstairs rooms are straightforward motel rooms, but the rooms on the upper level are all "Efficiency Units" - they have a small kitchen with fridge, sink, two electric rings and a full complement of pots, pans, plates & other kitchen wares.

The rooms upstairs are also nicer (in my opinion) because you have a attractive balcony/landing outside the door and you are away from the car park.

We stayed in three efficiency rooms; I had a futon efficiency which has a double bed, futon, kitchenette and bath. My travelling companions each had a room with two double beds, kitchenette and bath.

Barnegat is right at the end of Long Beach Island and on Central Avenue, where the North Shore Inn in located, you are one block from the ocean and one block from the bay. The motel provides Beach Badges (required during the season). The owner, is also a keen fisherman and can recommend fishing boats/trips if you are up for some sport fishing while you are there.

The North Shore Inn is convenient for all the Barnegat Light institutions like Mustache Bill's Diner (across the street), The Islander Store (next to Mustache Bill's) and Kubels Bar & Restaurant, which is at 7th & Bayside. It is an easy stroll to the Barnegat Light Museum, the Lighthouse and all the local shops.

The motel has free wireless internet connection and I had great signal throughout the property.

We had a very pleasant at the North Shore Inn. It is very well priced, clean, convenient and welcoming. It does get busy through - even after Labor Day, when we were there, it was doing a brisk trade.

  • Liked — Great hosts, kitchenette and wireless internet.
  • Disliked — That I had to leave after three days!

I normally rent a house in Barnegat Light, but I stayed at the North Shore for a night. Its older, but it was clean!
Anybody who knows LBI knows that the beach is ALWAYS close.
I would stay here again if I needed to. In the summer whenever I go by the motel, it always seems to be fully booked. Thats a good thing right?
Staff was friendly, too.
