Simply put, the 1895 Wine Cellar is a superb dining experience! I had heard about the Wine Cellar on our previous visit to the Mountain View Grand but it was booked then so we had to wait until this visit to experience it. I didn't look at any reviews, or even the menu, beforehand so we didn't really know what to expect. The approach to the Cellar is a bit like entering a speakeasy. You walk through the Harvest Tavern, down a flight of stairs and enter a full blown wine cellar. As others have noted, it is a bit chilly at first. The reason for this is simple. The Wine Cellar is a functioning wine cellar. When not being used for dining it is kept dark and at 56 degrees. My wife was a bit chilly at first but the fabulous host, Kader, offered her a light blanket and she was fine. After a few guests arrived, things warmed up and she was fine.
The ambience is fabulous. Wine racks surround you, the lighting is quiet, the seating private and the noise level very low.
The food was equally amazing. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. I especially loved a plate called the Forest Floor which was wild mushrooms served on a plate with cedar branches and then an underplate that emits an incredible misting steam . Words don't do it justice. World class.
All in all a truly memorable meal. The director , Kader, was great and the server, Vanda (with a V), was excellent. Attentive, knowledgeable, but not intrusive.
