My family joined another family here for NH vacation week. Since this was not our first time here, we had expectations based on past experience here.

Good points: The hotel staff are wonderful at check-in from the bellmen to the front desk. They are eager to share the history of the hotel and seem to have pride in where they work. The hotel has wonderful views and great ambience. There are lots of activities for kids from tubing to swimming to games. The theater is wonderful for kids and adults alike. Our two families did a snowmobile excursion that was the highlight of our trip.
Ok, not the not so good.....We booked adjoining rooms through the reservations line. Since we were booking at the same time, we got the same rate, however the rooms could not have been more opposite. Our room was more like a closet, which seemed like it was half the size of the other adjoining room, and the other room had a huge walkout balcony. Again we paid the same rate, so not sure if the hotel thought we wouldn't notice this-? I feel the difference could have been explained better as we might have booked different rooms. Insult to injury, our bed had no support in the center so we sank into the center every night. Although the room was not great, the staff is very friendly. The only exception was the restaurant hostesses who lost our second nights reservation and gave us a hard time despite the fact that the hotel was not busy and the Tavern was practically empty.

Room Tip: This is an old hotel, so be sure to ask for lots of details about the room dimensions and location. You can hear everything (and I mean everything) in the halls and in the neighboring rooms.

Dear Redbudian1,

Thank you for your feedback. We have attempted to contact you to discuss your stay, but we have not heard from you.

As a historic hotel the configurations of our guests rooms vary from room to room. Some of our guest rooms may be larger than others, even if they are the same room type. Please accept my apologies that this was not explained ahead of time. I am sorry to hear that there were issues with the bed you slept in and with the hostesses who waited on you.

If you would like to speak with us further, or if you could provide additional details such as room type and nights of stay, we will address your concerns. I hope to speak with you soon.

We stayed at the Mt View for 4 nights and we truly enjoyed the vacation. Staff members were very friendly and accommodating, the trails were well groomed, the atmosphere was quite relaxing and the service was excellent. We were particularly impressed with the service from Ms. Baker, the Director of Activities. She went out of her way to make sure we got a chance to take part in dog sledding which made our trip. She is one in a million!!!

We just returned from a weekend stay at the Mountain View Grand. I had booked a Fri/Sat night stay for me, my husband, and our two kids (6 and 9) for my husbands 40th birthday. Our stay coincided with the last weekend of Mass school vacation, and the first weekend of NH school vacation, so I was a little concerned that it would be packed, but it was ok. Busy, but not overly so. I chose this hotel because I knew we would not be skiing and there were enough activities through the hotel to keep my kids busy for the weekend.

Upon checking in, we were quickly shown to our room (#158), which was a little smaller than I thought it would be, but more than fine for a few nights. We had booked a Grand View room, and were not disappointed with the stunning view. We also had a lovely balcony, which would have been awesome if it was warmer out.

Immediately, my 9 year old wanted to check out everything at the hotel. So we spent the afternoon watching The Sound of Music in the movie theatre, playing chess in the game room, and swimming in the indoor pool. We husband and I got drinks at the bar and just enjoyed the hotel with the kids. We had a late dinner at the Tavern. The food was good, not overly great though.

The next morning we had the buffet breakfast, which was very good. You can tell the hotel uses all fresh, quality ingredients in their food. My kid's lemonade's were even fresh squeezed! We also hit the Meet the Farmer tour, which was fun. My husband had a massage and gave it a thumbs up, and for dinner we had made reservations at the Wine Cellar. There are no kids allowed so we put our kids in the Mountaineering Club. They had fun getting away from us for a few hours, and since it was quiet, they got lots of attention from SEBASTIAN, who did a great job keeping them busy.

If you have the chance to go to the Wine Cellar, GO! The service was impeccable, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect for a quiet romantic dinner.

But by far, the highlight of the weekend was the Dogsled ride. It was expensive, but definitely worth it.

We enjoyed every second of our stay at the hotel, and we hope to go back again. I'll admit, it was an expensive weekend, but worth every penny, as we made some wonderful family memories there.

Room Tip: If you can, get a room with a balcony facing the front of the hotel.
