“Had a great visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2012

Just spent two nights at the MVGR and it was our third time. It is definitely a family friendly place and the kids had a blast going to the pool, the game room, the farm and the movies. We had a suite and the layout was perfect - kids in the other room separated by the closet and bathroom. The food was great, except the breakfast was your typical hotel fare. But I understand that they use the produce from their own farm in the meals the guests get. How many resorts can say that? Some of the staff definitely had an international flavor and were very pleasant and efficient. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! And of course the views are spectacular. I’ve read some of the previous reviews and I think that some guests should align their expectations with reality. It’s one of the oldest wooden hotels in the country. That means they’re pretty limited to what they can do to the structure of the place. So the floors slope in places, the bathrooms have windows for natural ventilation, and they have to put window a/c units in instead of central air. If you want the modern sterile cookie cutter spa experience, go to Vegas. If you want to experience the history and charm of the way vacationers used to do it with infinitely better comfort than what they had, then go to the Mountain View.

Room Tip: The rooms with the best view are on the second flor east side - the side that faces the Presidential...

If you are looking for a piece of NH history in a beautiful country setting, then you could not find a more idyllic spot. We have stayed at the Mountain View Grand three different times: first as a couple in late October, then twice as a family, once in early May and most recently in August. It is wonderful any time of year! The structure is breathtaking from the first view on Route 3 approaching and as you pull up in front. The views are spectacular. The wooden structure is one of NH's gems in the tradition of historic resorts. (If you want ultra-modern settings, with the latest and greatest in contemporary design, this is not the place for you.) The staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and spacious....with a view everywhere! The hotel has delicious food with plenty to do whether you wish to relax on the large veranda, read a book in one of the beautiful "studies" with views, play in the game room, catch a movie in their private theatre, play in the pool (indoor or out), or stroll the gorgeous grounds. And the farm history has been brought to life with the barn tours and friendly farmer! There are many outdoor activities from which to choose, golf, horseback rides, and hiking to name a few. And the spa looks wonderful....hope to try it some day! I would, and will, heartily recommend spending a relaxing visit at the MVGR anytime of year. WE enjoyed it in the slow season as well as the busy season. Thank you!

We stayed at the Mountain View Grand July 23 through the 27th. Fell in love with the place the moment we drove up. The hotel is an old historic hotel in the northern white mountains. The first thing that gets you are the spectacular views, you are surrounded by mountains. The hotel itself is beautiful and very comfortable. The service was incredible and the employees were very friendly and helpful. Our room was enormous and very clean. Food was very good, many options for dining. Enjoyed a lovely dinner in their wine cellar dining area, pricey but an experience not to be missed.. Can not wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: ask for room facing out front of the hotel, rooms are larger and views are better. If traveling wit...

From the moment you pull up to the veranda you are in awe of the resorts panoramic location. A mere 57 mountain tops can be seen from the front porch. As you take your first step into The Mt. View Grand you are welcomed by one of the many foreign exchange students and from then on treated like royalty.
As the mother of the bride, our destination wedding was fairy tale come true. The attention to detail was impeccable. We held a weekend full of festivities; our guests had so many choices of how to spend their leisure time. Each day new lists of activities are available at the front desk. A very unique sport of axe throwing had our wedding guests engaged and was a big hit with the ladies too. Each evening you can roast marshmallows around the campfire. Of course, the entertainment such as tennis, golf, workout center, paintball and pool all coupled with the beautiful vistas make everything all the more spectacular. The working farm is a wealth of activity for young and old; the Llamas enjoy posing for photos too!
Throughout our stay the staff was friendly, attentive and willing to answer any questions. The warm, distinguished nature of the hotel adds to its charm. It is with pleasure I would like to recommend The Mt View Grand for excellence in the hotel industry.

This was our second stay at this hotel and we loved it even more than the first. It's a great place for families with kids. There are so many activities that we could not do all of them but we did enjoy the outdoor pool, golf, tennis, the barn, the playground, the game room, and making smores by the fire pit. We stayed in a suite which had one room with a king bed for us and another room with a pullout couch for the kids (9 and 5). The room was clean and spacious enough for the four of us. My kids loved that their bed was all set up and there was a chocolate on each pillow every night when we got back to the hotel at the end of the day. We will definitely stay here again.

We greatly enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance of this beautifully restored old time treasure.
The grounds are well kept and the scenes are wonderful.
The room was large, Quiet, well appointed and clean. The piano player in the lobby added a nice touch. The service of the young and mostly exchange student servers was efficient. It was interesting to get their perspective on the experience they were having. I enjoyed riding in the brass appointed 1931 elevator.

Room Tip: Although the third floor is a walk-up, the rooms facing the front of the hotel have great views.

Check in was fast. Room was on first floor, back side. Floors are uneven and bathroom could use some repairs, eg tiles missing near baseboards. The rooms are old but renovated. That still means old school air conditioner units in the windows. We noticed the unit wasn't sealed entirely. That would explain some of the bugs ins our room. I killed a moth at midnight right above our bed.

Bed was amazingly comfortable. Nice linens. Would have liked luxury bath products instead of generic offerings.

Dinner in tavern was awesome. Portions were huge and reasonably priced.

Outdoor pool and golf course were great to have.
