This is our 3rd year at the MVG. It is a favorite vacation spot for us. We love it for the historic hotel, amazing setting, kids activities for the service and value. We love that it is set back on a hill away from a congested downtown center, but close proximity to many activities (Santas Village, Whales Tale to name a few) but also some great hiking spots.

What we love: The value and amenities: the pool (in and out) movie theatre, game room, Barn area, outdoor food service, kids activities, tennis courts, large wonderful front porch area, the view, Spa, the great bellman who open the doors with a greeting, clean rooms stocked w what you need. The kid club is excellent

Service for the most part is always good. The outdoor service is slow, but the staff was great.
The reservations desk might need some help. They seem overwhelmed at times and we didnt not get a prompt call back.but they were helpful. All is all, another great family vacation. We will be back for sure

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor are nice..

We were very excited for this stay and I had been looking forward to visiting since viewing a travel special about the spa a long time ago. We reserved a Vista Studio to give our family more space because we were traveling two children, ages three and four. When we arrived, my son tripped as he stepped over the threshold of the main door and I put down the many bags I was carrying to console him. I found it strange that neither of the two staff members working at the door or elevator checked in to see how he was or helped me pick up any of my bags while still holding him afterward. Maybe they were not sure what to do, or uncomfortable, or maybe a screaming child just makes everyone want to look the other way? Everyone was very friendly other than that, so I'm not sure what to make of this. After our check in my husband went to the front desk to inquire about the kid's program which we had planned for our four year old to participate in, and we were told it would not be running during our stay due to the many family events scheduled for the 4th of July. I would have expected to have been informed of this in advance, even through some sort of notice on the website, or a line in my confirmation email. We were very disappointed with the size of our room, as well as the view, which actually faced the side of the hotel at a forty five degree angle. The room appeared much smaller than the vista rooms pictured on the hotel's website, and did not seem in any way larger than a typical hotel room. When we opened the sleeper sofa, there was very little space to move around the room. The room's window also had a lot of foam stuffed in between the upper and lower windows for insulation, which was not very attractive looking. The bathroom actually had a really nice view, which was the view we were expecting our room to have. We asked if we could move to a larger suite, or even two connecting rooms, but none were available. We tried the Country Club for dinner, the kids liked the food, the adult food was not great. We had breakfast at the buffet in the morning, and it was fine, and the service was very good. One of my children did enjoy the pony (actually a horse) ride, and the morning barn tour was a nice experience and a much more authentic experience than a petting zoo. We decided to leave after just one night to stay somewhere else that would give our family more elbow room. I think this hotel might be a better fit for families with slightly older children. I would not advise paying the extra money for a vista room, unless you are guaranteed one of the rooms in the pictures.

Dear AV,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your holiday visit to the Resort. Each one of our rooms offer a unique and different feel with views varying from enjoying the property, to gardens to mountain ranges. The photos we have available do our best to represent similar characteristics in the different types and I apologize if there was any confusion in their representation. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our barn tour and hope that in the future your family is able to spend time with us again.

Very nice place that strikes a great balance between catering to couples and families alike. Excellent food and mostly excellent service. Minor faux pas on check-in was immediately fixed by staff and cheese, cookies and bottle of wine left in room by general manager (Thanks Chris!).

They have an excellent family program led by a high-energy organizer, the famous Ms Baker. The patio is amazing. They have a great indoor and outdoor pool and a wide range of activities (for kids and adults). Take proper attire to take advantage of the higher end dining option.
The movie theatre (one can schedule showings) is great for kids.
The main restaurant has a kids-buffet, which works out really well.
Camp-fire with free s'mores every night.
Food was great. Try the mussels!

Suggestions for management:

- Service at club house and outdoor pool is not always good. They got some drinks wrong and one has to wait a long time for the food. The pool itself is great, but the surrounding facilities seem like work in progress (e.g., there is no clear place to change).
- Front-desk is handeling many things (concierge, spa reservations, registration, checkin/out) and seems sometimes overwhelmed.
- Ms B can be a little on the loud side.

Room Tip: Suites are not very large.

Mountain View Grand is literally "Heaven on Earth." We have been there seven times in little over a year. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. The bellmen are very polite and helpful, offering to take your luggage to your room for you. The workers at the front desk are all very welcoming and friendly, trying to make your stay the best as possible.
There is constantly fun things to do around the clock. Mrs. Baker, the activites director, and her team are great. They plan the best activities and games to play. When it is a holiday there is always holiday themed games to play and do all day long. Whatever the time of year is there is always at least once, usually more, parties or banquets. It was 4th of July, so the party was a bbq.The barbeque took place in the beautiful crystal ballroom due to the weather outside.. My dad competed in the adult pie eating contest at the barbeque, and he came in 2nd place! It was hilarious! To make it more fun, Mrs. Baker decided to blind fold the contestants. Earlier that day there was a cardboard boat race in the outdoor pool in which you make a cardboard boat to race across the shallow end while someone is sitting in it. SO much fun and a great time to get your creativity going! There was a lovely arrangment of all sorts of delicious food from a salad bar to steak to the handmade dessert table and so so so much more. There were many games being played including egg tosses, pie eating, limbo, a kids contest of best t shirt and dancing. Whatever the activity is, it is always tons and tons fun! It was a rainy outside, and Mrs. Baker still managed to have the lovely display of fireworks to end the fabulous night. At night, there is a kids club called mountaineering club. The counselors and Mrs. Baker always make it so much fun.
The outdoor pool is a beautiful site, overlooking the first hole on the golf course. The water is super warm and a blast to play in as with the indoor pool. There is the most beautiful wildlife mural on the wall with a scavenger hunt to go along with it. There's a big red barn towards the back of the property with so many animals to see. The farmers there always make it so interesting to learn about the cute animals. The trail rides on their well trained horses are spectacular! I have been on a trail ride three times! You go through the forest behind the barn passing by the golf course and the Scotland highland cattle. There's also a beautiful 9 hole golf course that surrounds the property. My dad went to a night golf tournament when we visited the resort during Memorial day. They lit the balls with glow sticks and played in the dark. When i looked out my window I couldn't see anything except glowing balls and golf carts. It was so cool to watch! Every night there is a campfire just beside the country club. It is a good time for anyone to enjoy a smore, sing some songs, or play some family volleyball.
As there are so many things to do outside, there is also plenty to do inside if the weather is not the greatest. There's a movie theater, a game room, library, and a room called the dodge parlor, which is a cozy and comfortable room filled with board games for the whoe family. Old-fashioned family fun! The veranda has a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
Even in the winter there is still so much to do. From skiing, tubing, ice skating, Christmas, New Year ro Thanksgiving parties, sleigh rides or carriage rides and more. It is always a blast. Im not just saying it. I really mean it. It is a blast whatever the season, month or day!!
The food is delicious! The breakfast buffet is filled with all sorts of yummy pastries, fruit and hot foods including eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes and so much more. Wherever you decide to have dinner, it is always delicious. The waiters/ waitresses are so friendly and helpful and will serve you whatever you need.
Mountain View Grand is truly a remarkably place. It is "HEAVEN ON EARTH."

Room Tip: 1. Ask for a room on the front side of the hotel. It has a rockin' view of the golf course and mountains. 2. And if you decide to go on a trail ride or eat in the wine cellar, book it ahead of time.

I don't even know where to begin in raving about MVG. The location is breathtaking and the resort is pristine, with old world charm. We stayed in the Vista Studio, which had a great walk in closet and spacious bathroom. We took advantage of every crevice of the resort, including the high end gym, amazing movie theatre and game room. The pool area is beautiful and overlooks the mountains. We ate every meal at the Tavern because it was delicious and affordable. There was a $5 kid buffet at night, which was a huge hit. We were here over July 4th, and the party was well worth the money, with amazing fireworks and hours of family entertainment (pie eating contest, limbo, dance-off...run by the activities department). The best part was Ms Baker and her activities staff. The Mountaineering Club offers up to 4 hours a day of FREE activities for kids, which we used daily (make a t-shirt, whip cream eating contest, bingo, sports, etc.). It provided the perfect balance of family time and adult relaxation. Ms Baker has amazing family activities too, such as "Cardboard Boat Races", wonderful campfires, and family sports games (wiffleball, frisbee, football). We were so busy that we never needed to leave the resort. The hotel was wonderful and we will come back...as long as Ms Baker and her team are still at MVG.
