We planned a hiking mini-vaca and stayed a few nights at the Mountain View Grand, a nice historic hotel, well maintained with all the modern commodities and immaculate rooms, the hotel is powered with wind energy. We really enjoyed our fine dinning experience in the Garden room: snails in pastry, mozzarella de buffala and grilled veggies, Maine lobster & asparagus risotto and a nice californian wine...the wine is list is extensive! The staff was very nice, the view is awesome and the verandah is perfect to unwind, have a glass of wine and admire the mountains around....there is a nice indoor pool, firness facilities and great outdoor pool at the clubhouse. I enjoyed also petting the friendly animals at the farm nearby...It is a very nice place and when we will go back to hike in the fall we will definitely stay again at the Mountain View Grand!!

First of all, the Managing Director was very accommodating and responsive to my requests. We stayed here in July and it was an absolute perfect vacation for my four year old! There were activities every hour to keep the little ones occupied! You could relax by the pool while watching your child have the time of his life playing with the staff! Whether it be Kooky Golf, Water Balloons, Tennis, Horseshoes.....it was amazing! The breakfast buffet is awesome...worth every penney! The Tavern was also great, the staff were attentive and so nice to Connor, my four year old! I think he talked to them for an hour! This is THE place to go for a family vacation! I'm actually going back in August! I can't wait! The rooms are clean and so comfy.....there is soooo much to do and the view is....well....UNFORGETTABLE! AMAZING!

Room Tip: All rooms are great!

My husband and I spent two nights here and cannot say enough good things about this place. First of all, it is beautiful - the photos don't do it justice. Second and more importantly, the staff all went out of there way to make everything perfect. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. The food was excellent - we ate once in the wine cellar, once in the tavern and once at the golf course. Everything was great. The spa was also wonderful. Next time we come we will be bringing the kids because it seemed like the hotel really catered to families with tons of kids activities, the barn with the animals etc. (Though I still recommend it for a couples get away too.) I'd give it higher than 5 stars if I could, easily one of the best hotel I've ever stayed at. You won't be disappointed.

Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Mountain View Grand resort. We stayed for a weekend with our two children (10 and 12 years old). Our room was fantastic! We had a 2 room suite and a shared balcony. When we arrived in the evening the beds were turned down. My children especially enjoyed the chocolates on the pillows. The next morning we went out for breakfast and 45 mins later returned to find our room already made up!

The activities were numerous and fun. The activities director took us on a tour. She was engaging, informative and fun! The staff was great. There was always someone there to greet you or open a door for you.

Our favorite part of the stay was the barn and horseback riding lesson. My children decided to try horseback riding. They were too young and inexperienced for a trail ride so they took a lesson. . Meredith and Janet were wonderful! They were more than Ok with me staying during the lesson, they were inviting! The lesson started with teaching the girls how to brush the horses, and how to behave around horses. It was great. They had the proper equipment and showed the girls how to use it. They were informative and patient while my girls (who are pretty petite!) learned how to communicate with the horses to get them to move forward, make turns and Whoa!. The horses (Steve and Boxer) were great! They were calm, gentle and eager to do what need to be done. The horses are very well cared for and you can tell that Meredith and Janet really care about the horses! It was a wonderful experience.

Thank you all for a fantastic weekend.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the complimentary review. It sounds like your daughters had the perfect mix of learning about horses from Meridith and Janet while having fun too. We hope this will be the first of many more equestrian adventures they will share with us. We look forward to welcoming you back.

We stayed at the Mountain View Grand for two night, and found it a complete treat. There is no way I can capture the feeling of sitting out on the veranda of this historic hotel in the grand old style, looking out at the beauty of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, sipping on the lemonade that the staff had delivered to me. Real lemonade, great staff, nice rooms, though not huge, great food. I used both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, which were clean and attractive.

Dined one night in the main "fine dining" restaurant, and the food was excellent, the staff engaging and attentive without being intrusive- just right. Other meals we took in the tavern, which were good too.

I didn't use the golf course, but it must be a great setting to play golf. Didn't use the large movie library, but nice that it was there. I did use the library, just a quiet well-appointed room full of books to borrow. And though we didn't have kids, it was nice to see staff leading a game of whiffle ball or kickball in the afternoon, at the swimming pool and nice play area beside it, and watch the s'mores bonfire in the evening. So I suspect this would be a great place to take the kids along to.

The lobby/public areas were comfy, and well-used. But the long front veranda wAs tops in my book.

We stayed at the Mountain View Grand for our anniversary weekend. We were very impressed. They let us check in a few hours early which was absolutely wonderful and so appreciated because we arrived much earlier than the standard check-in time. The hotel is clean and well kept. Our room was a bit smaller than we had imagined but it was still very nice with beautiful views of the hotel grounds and mountains. The carpet could have used a little cleaning but the linens and bathroom were all nice and clean. The bed was really comfortable. The hotel restaurants were a bit pricey but the food was good. All hotel employees including restaurant servers were nice and polite. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and have breathtaking views of mountains anywhere you look. The pool was nice and clean. They had a nice gym and activity room. The farm animals were adorable. The golf course looked really nice too but we didn't play.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 2 children, ages 7 and 10. It was a wonderful stay with very friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in a classic room with 2 double beds - it was a pretty room, not very large but we weren't in the room too much anyway.
We didn't get a chance to use all of the amenities during our stay (a reason to return) but we very much enjoyed the game room, the movie theater and the golf course. We'll have to return to try the rest.
Our only complaint has to do with the service in the restaurants. There isn't much near the hotel in the way of other options for dining, and our service in the restaurants on more than one occasion was extremely slow. We didn't let it bother us, but don't look for a quick meal here (either in the clubhouse or in the tavern). Not sure what the problem was, it didn't seem overly busy at either meal where we had delays (one breakfast in the tavern and one dinner on the deck at the clubhouse). We had dinner in the tavern one other time with much better service.
Overall however we would not hesitate to return -- great things to do at the resort itself, and a very convenient location to see the area attractions--- Santa's Village is about 15 minutes away, also enjoyed trips to Mt. Washington and Franconia State park to hike the flume gorge and take the aerial tramway up Mt Cannon.
