A week before Christmas, we brought three young grandchildren here for the ice cream buffet. This was a tradition we had when our own kids were young. Things are not quite the same as back then, when there was an animated reindeer band behind the large glass windows in the entry way, and other animated displays throughout the shop. It's still a nice place to visit, though.

The kids did enjoy the ice cream buffet (and the player piano) very much, but the necessary timing of our visit meant we had only an hour before Kellerhaus closed, so they were not able to see much of the Christmas room or the toy area. We did take them to the candy shop area and found something new there -- a candy buffet. Obviously we were not going to do that on top of the ice cream sundaes, but next time we may do the candy instead of the ice cream.

All in all it was a fun visit in a picturesque atmosphere. We plan to do it again yearly if possible.

We made a special trip here three days before Christmas to check out their homemade candies, particularly their homemade ribbon candy, which is becoming hard to find. Being that it was three days prior to Christmas, we fully expected that they would have the ribbon candy, since no one would want it any other time of the year. They and their homemade ribbon candy were featured on a local tv program, so we thought we would pay them a visit. We looked for some and couldn't find it anywhere in the shop so inquired (from a very unhelpful and snippy gal at the candy counter) and to our surprise, no ribbon candy! Bad planning on their part, and loss of sales from me (we had planned to buy quite a bit for family and friends for Christmas) and a host of others who had travelled there for the same reason. Their homemade chocolates looked inviting, so we got a few of those so it wasn't a total loss. The ice cream sundae buffet section was closed, so we couldn't enjoy that either. Again, their loss. Seems they could use some pointers in supply and demand, PR and customer service. The gift shop was underwhelming, nothing special or worth going out of your way for.

We drove a bit out of our way to visit this historical place. It was Friday before labor day in the mid-afternoon, and it was understaffed which made getting the ice cream a bit slow. However, there wasn't a long line or anything so it was ok. You make your own sundae which was fun, but I don't put much on my ice cream anyway so the choices weren't for me. If you have children, this is a perfect place to go for ice cream. The ice cream itself was very good, and we ate outside on the picnic tables which was a nice last summer moment.

I'm guessing that this is a great place to bring the kids to get them hopped up on candy and the ice cream "buffet." The vanilla ice cream is very good. For us adults, Kellerhaus was just an overpriced sundae that we made ourselves. We were there on a Friday afternoon in August; the ice cream shop was understaffed and the floors were pretty dirtied by kids dropping whipped cream and sprinkles. Kellerhaus feels like a place that was worth a visit 20-30 years ago.

Love Wednesdays, it is $1 cone (or dish) day! The candy center is awesome as well. And they have a HALLOWEEN section!!!! Lots of Christmas items as well, and always some LOL items too. I never leave this place empty handed. From Greeting Cards to Spa Robes, an eclectic mix of items to purhase. But the main attraction is the HOMEMADE Ice Cream and Candy. They have a sundae bar which looks neat too. Free sprinkles and a flag for your ice cream purchase as well... Can't get free sprinkles anywhere else! Love this place, and you will too.
