If it were not for housekeeping throwing out a $800- retainer it would have been a much better trip. Beautiful facility with lots to do. Friendly staff, Very nice sized rooms and tastefully decorated. Called to have staff go up to room and get retainer but they apparently had cleaned room 404 already and the Retainer was thrown in garbage. Made for an even more expensive trip than planned.

Michelle,
I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and your room and equally disappointed that it was tainted by the loss of the costly retainer. As I dug into the situation I learned that it was mixed in with trash items so housekeeping was unaware that a retainer was in the mix. I am so sorry for that incredible inconvenience. Our Housekeeping Manager was planning to contact you to discuss further. I hope we get the opportunity to serve you and your family again soon. Thank you for taking the time to write this review.

Best Regards,
Matt Hesser

We stay at BB Lodge often. The staff is friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Some could use updating, but overall it's a clean, comfortable place to stay. Waterville Valley is a perfect weekend getaway. We bring many friends here.

We drove up to waterville valley, NH for a fall wedding for my GF friend. We booked a suite that sleeps 4-6 people. The room was fantastic and very spacious. It included bedroom, living room and kitchen.

The hotel is conveniently located. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We were a family of four, and felt we had enough space. I would love to see them add a small breakfast. That would enhance the value greatly.

The title just about says it all. I took my wife there to stay for a weekend birthday trip. We got their late in the evening but were promptly and invery much in a friendly way greeted at registration. The "room" is more like a suite! Very large and very comfortable! Just a really nice place to stay all around.

My daughter and I spent the week at Black Bear Lodge and loved it. We went during the summer with the idea that it wouldn't be very crowded as everyone else went to the beach. The lodge has an indoor and outdoor pool and access to a local recreation facility. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff were especially kind to my 9 year old daughter - answering all of her questions and making her feel right at home.

The only downside, which is not the fault of the lodge but instead the owner of the suite we stayed in for the week, was that the suite had no curtains for the skylight in the upstairs bedroom. The staff suggested that we hang bathroom towels in the windows to block the early morning sunshine. They even provided additional towels for us to use for that purpose!

The lodge is within walking distance to the Waterville Valley Center where there are great restaurants and trails. Will be going back next year.

Would (and did) recommend to friends.

I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the staff. I'm so sorry about the problem you had with the window. Your review is very helpful and will help me to reach out to each owner to address any other skylight problems. We will continue to work with each owner for a solution. Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

Stayed at Black Bear Lodge over the summer and had a great time. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit on the first floor (unit 104), which is one of the recently renovated units. Keep in mind all units are not the same and ask if the unit has been recently updated when booking. We had five people in the unit and it was very comfortable with the murphy bed. We found the unit location to be very quiet when compared to the rest of the building, but still close to the pool which the kids thought was great! This proved to be beneficial as it was a very busy weekend. We also found the direct access to the outdoors (only available on the ground floor) through the slider to be a big plus when traveling with young children. It was great to sit outside and relax or pull up your bikes at the end of the day. The unit was also equipped with a Wii game system with plenty of games which the kids loved for nighttime entertainment. Also walked over to see a band in village square on Saturday night. All and all it was a great weekend and we highly the black bear and unit 104.

Room Tip: Request an upgraded unit and ask for a quiet location esp. on busy summer weekends
