“A nice place to stay.”

I have stayed there a number of times and have enjoyed my times there.
The center of the town is just a short walk from the lodge. The shuttle bus stops right in front so one has only a short walk to the enterence.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Just a nice place to go to get away from it all, relax and do things at one's own pace.

We've stayed in Waterville Valley every winter because of it's beautiful location in the national park. Black Bear Lodge is definitely not our favorite place to stay. One of our beds had a dirty (I won't even tell you what it looked like) blanket and the saff didn't even apologize for it. The condos were not that atttractive and the pool was small and crowded. I would recommend the Golden Eagle and the Valley Inn. I haven't stayed at any other inns besides these three. Waterville Valley is a beautiful, uncrowded place especially on weekdays but don't stay at the Black Bear.

For a hotel that is supposed to be in the hospitality business, the Black Bear Lodge was extremely short on hospitality and on heat. We stayed there in February, 2003 and our room was cold. Considering it was five below outside, the heater in our room, a heat pump - heater ac combo unit, simply could not make enough heat plus it was drafty. Just as bad as the lack of heat was the attitude of the font desk. As the building was full up the front desk took little interest in solving our 'lack of heat' and said there was little they could do and that we should just 'bundle up.' Their lack of concern was obvious...so, the Black Bear has about as much hospitality as a vending machine...namely none!

This is a most inhospitable place to stay. The staff was completely unhelpful. This hotel is absurdly overpriced. It is actually condos that desperately need to be updated and cleaned. The daily housekeeping left so very much to be desired. I was with a large group which can be rather difficult, we made every attempt to be as pleasant as possible when addressing our problems but the staff was horrible. I find that intolerable considering you are paying so much for a dump.
