Review of Mount Kearsarge

Reviewed October 9, 2012 via mobile

Hiked up mount kearsarge this past weekend. What a great hike. Not very hard but will certainly get your heart pumping and your glands a sweating.

We opted to go up the steeper Winslow trail (1.1 miles and 1,100 vertical climb) and down the more gradual Barlow trail (1.7 miles back down). I think this is the way to go because you can climb up faster then enjoy the better views from the outer trail on the way down.

Spectacular views all around from the peak. Incredible foliage! Make sure you have proper footwear. There is a lot of semi steep granite rock face you climb up and down and if its wet it can get a little tricky! Enjoy this great New Hampshire hike.

The hike itself isn't bad at all. It was pretty easy. It's a moderate hike and the views are incredible. Once you get to the top it's great. 360 degrees of views. It's wonderful. I plan on hiking it again so I can get views of the foliage.

We took the climb from Warner, NH. It was a 4 mile drive up and then a .5 mile hike to the top. It's a $4.00 pp fee or donation (if no one is manning the station). When we reached the top (close to 3,000') the view was spectacular on this cool, crisp clear day at the beginning of September. It happened to be Mountain Day for Colby-Sawyer College, so we shared the top with about 100 students. From the climb we could hear them and it made the climb easier since it sounded like a party up there! We saw Mount Washington and lots of lakes and hills. Just enough of a climb for us senior citizens. I heard that you wouldnt want to take this hike in the spring ...much too wet. From what the public service guys told us, a hike (or snowmobile ride) in the winter is as nice as the fall...just be careful of ice if the snow is melting.

Last year we took on of my girlfriends on a dinner cruise she was visting from FL. Great food which is supplied bu the Appleseed Rest and was excellent. Nice boat ride around the Lake and good service. Drinks are small and expensive but still recommend.

Great climb, easy from the Warner side, challenging from Wilmot. One of the highest peaks in the south-central part of the state
