Truly extraordinary food -- constantly changing menu (goat curry with Mediterranean spices? Yum), excellent wine list, professional service, and great desserts. ALSO, a wonderful place to have morning coffee or get it to go....

My husband and I love to go to Burdicks. It is a local place that also has a wonderful chocolate shop - they ship all over the world and also have a place in Boston. There is also a great grocery store that carries local cheeses, produce and meats. The restaurant is a bistro style and serves continental cuisine and is open in the morning for wonderful pastries and coffee (expresso, cocoa etc.). My only complaint is that the restaurant is quite noisy. If they would do something to muffle the noise we would probably go more often as my husband has hearing problems.

Burdick's is definitely worth it. Highly suggest reservations when it comes to Saturday afternoon lunch they tend to get very busy. My boyfriend and I shared a cheese plate with local cheese from vermont...amazing, oysters on the half shell and salad and soup respectively. Everything was out of this world with layers of flavor. With the snow coming down this was the coziest place to cuddle up and enjoy an amazing lunch together. To finish off some fresh milk hot chocolate to go. Couldn't have asked for a better lunch.

L.A. Burdick is located in a small New England town [Walpole] in western New Hampshire. It's not close to major urban areas, but is smack dab in the midst of natural beauty that excels. The atmosphere is charming: White tablecloth service, polished wood interior, shiny brass at the bar. Food is between very good and excellent. But the true attraction is CHOCOLATE! If you love chocolate, this is a destination for you. The hot chocolate can be ordered in several forms -- my favorite is the dark chocolate, the kind that emboldened Montezuma. On premises is the chocolate shop which sells chocolates in obscene varieties. If you go, bring your camera. It's not a restaurant, it's an experience.

OK...Burdick's is in Walpole, NH, not your main stream place to be despite the fact it's a pretty little town with plenty of $$$ judging from the size of the houses. Burdick's is dead center and a destination restaurant for people up to 25 mi.'s away. That would include Keene, NH and the Monadnock region to the east and Manchester, VT to the west. The food is American and it is good. Make a reservation...things get busy on weekends when people have the time to drive over. The last time I was there on a Sunday afternoon, it took forever to get an espresso and my bill, which is why I give it four stars. The bill for two was $35 including tip, so the value is good. Worth the detour off I95 North/South in Vermont just across the state line. Oh, and it's a chocolate factory too, so that part alone is worth the trip.
