Anchorage at the Lake
Reviewed July 26, 2009

This is the first time our family has gotten away from the usual commute for hours, stay at a hotel, and see the local attractions type of vacation. I searched the internet for New Hampshire rentals and found Anchorage at the Lake. It looked like everything you could ask for in a relaxing, slow-paced vacation, and it was. Now I do not typically take the time to write reviews but I know there are others who are in the same vacation rut looking for a change to whom this review might be helpful.
My family and I had a wonderful stay in a rustic cabin on the lake. The staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating without being “in your face” each day. Lake Winnisquam is a beautiful site to behold as the early morning fog lifts and exposes the distant mountain vistas. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, exploring the grounds, catching up on summer reading, and cooking outdoors each evening. We spoke with other family oriented guests who have been vacationing at the Anchorage for years, lured long ago by the same attraction as were we. We found the cabin to be dry and cozy, particularly on one stormy evening. Even the local merchants were pleasant and friendly. Needless to say, we have already booked next years vacation at the Anchorage.
So if you are looking for less vacation stress, check into Anchorage at the Lake; a breath of fresh air, and then some.

It was awful.
$200 per night - for nothing!
could have stayed at a 4 star hotel with pool, bar, resturant and amenities.
Surprised this place hasn't been shut down.
would have been more comfortable and cheaper - sleeping in our car.
cabins are way to small for families.
no tv, movies, games,
kids and you will be bored and want to leave in the first hour.
too late! - no refunds!

The cabins were great! Rustic with modern ammenities. Met a family of 27 that make the trip annually, so they were seasoned to the living without TV or telephone (which we found we didn't miss at all!!!!) Tanger outlets just a couple miles down the road. Paddle boats, canoes, swimming in the lake, giant campfire and SMORES! We spent our time "re-connecting". We actually added an extra day and hated to leave. The staff were helpful and the atmosphere was so relaxing and laid back. Ahhh, it took me back to my childhood and I'm glad our girls (including our border collie) had the opportunity to experience life without "mySpace" & other electronic distractions.
We are considering making this an annual event, and look forward to next year.

We are a family of six (four hard to please teens). The Anchorage was recommended to me by my oldest son's doctor. They have been vacationing there for the past few years. I'm so happy we gave it a shot. There is no getting around the fact that the Anchorage is rustic nor "inexpensive". Having said that...we have already booked our stay for next year. We stayed a total of five nights. Our kids entertained themselves each day and we relaxed. There is something incredibly rejuvinating about being by the lake. The area is just beautiful and the lake...pristine. The staff is pleasant and overall met our needs.

What a huge disappointment. Please do not waste your money - this place is so bad. We paid 195 per night for a crappy, stinky dump. I am not a picky person and usually do not take the time to write reviews like this. However, I do not want anyone else to make the mistake we did. I am all for rustic and the outdoors - that is why we rented a cabin. However, I did not expect mold, an overwhelming stench of mildew and a bathroom that is barely better than an outhouse. This place is not worth staying at any price and the folks running the place are rude and apathetic. When we needed new towels (on the evening of the 2nd day) we had to travel to the office in the rain where we were treated like we were asking for in room massages.

I was sorry to learn of this guests poor experience at our property. Although we are certainly not the property for everyone we do strive to offer a no frills quite, comfortable and relaxing time at our lake front cabins. We are trying to reach out to this guest so that we may address and correct their concerns.

What a mistake staying here.
No hot water at all, And no water at all in the mornings
because the well can't supply enought water to all the cabins
at once,
I went to the office and they said I should get up and take a shower at 6:00 am.
I just payed $500 to stay there for 3 nights, And that's the answer i got.
They wouldnt even come look at the hot water heater.
This place is falling apart, Must have been nice 30 years ago.
This is much worse than camping, Its more like living in the slums.

It is true we had a mechanical problem with our water pump during this guests stay. Unfortunately the part needed was not available to our plumber until the following Monday. This has been corrected and this is no longer an issue at the Anchorage. I do hope this guest would give a second chance.

This place was exactly what we were looking for. A cabin on a "not to busy" lake but close to all the restaurants and a great outlet mall. My husband holds a corporate job and is very stressed by the weekend I wanted a step up from our usual camping trip. The Anchorage was the Place! A rustic cabin with no tvs. It rained on one of our days but we just sat out in the screened porch of our cabin - I played the guitar, my husband read a book and our daughter played with her Nitendo DS.
