Once you make the long trek up the mountain, Steele Hill Resort has nice facilities, especially the indoor pool. The staff are friendly and helpful.

We had made reservations for a getaway weekend and expected our accommodations to be typical of a well-appointed hotel room. After hiking up three flights of stairs to reach our room (no elevator), we found our room a little less than that. Two electrical outlets were not working, so we had to plug in our alarm clock to sit on the floor. There was no desk or place to put reading materials. There was a little ironing board in the closet, but no iron and certainly no place to iron. What I found most inconvenient was that there was no ice bucket; ice had to be retrieved from the restaurant kitchen.

The maid service came in on our second day to make the bed. However, dirty towels were left on the floor of the bathroom and the only wastebasket we had - the bathroom one - was not emptied.

Food in the resort's restaurant was good and service there was friendly. Because the room was somewhat disappointing, short on convenience and not worth the price we paid, it is unlikely we would return. Anyone who has difficulties with stairs needs to make sure that is known when reservations are made.

This was actually my second visit to Steele Hill. The first time was pretty aweful as well. The rooms are small, drab, outdated, and smell aweful. The only reason I went back was because I was contacted by Steele Hill for a free 2 night stay because I was so unhappy the first time. Well let me tell you it was worse. Let's just say, I checked out after only 1 night. I couldn't bear another minute in that dump even for free. Take my advice, if your looking for a hotel in the Lakes Region, stay clear of Steele Hill.

My first time to the resort. We stayed for 4 nights in a big townhouse duplex. The room was really big and the views were great. Pool was great. It had island and a waterslide and was all inside a big atrium. The grounds look amazing. we walked on the hiking trails. Just what the doctor ordered. Quiet and relaxing. The lakes region is a blast. we rented a boat. the water was freesing but it was hot out. The resort has a resturant too. The food was actually good. Pleasantly surprised. really we were pleasantly surprised all around. Friendly and serene. I would do it again.

My wife and I booked a long weekend at Steele Hill, then we read some of the reviews on your site and wondered if we'd made a mistake. Now that we've actually been to Steele Hill, we both wonder where, exactly, the people who wrote negative reviews stayed. It sure wasn't where we did.

We had a 1 BR condo in Steele Hill South, the newest addition to Steele Hill. The room was clean and had everything we could have wanted, and a breathtaking view of Squam Lake to boot. The Steele Hill staff we dealt with were all extremely pleasant and helpful and seemed determined to make our stay as pleasant as possible, which they did.

The units were new and there was some construction still going on, but it wasn't a bother. We ate in our room, so I can't comment on the restaurant. We also didn't get to experience many of the vast array of amenities Steele Hill offers, but we will. We had such a great time we became owners of a week at Steele Hill.

This was our first visit to the resort. There was some construction happening along with new furniture and upgrades happening in the older section where we stayed. The swimming pool was beautiful, we brought our skis but thought the season was over but it snowed and we skied 3 times at 3 different ski areas. Discounted ski tickets too. We had 2 nice dinners along with brunch one day in the on site restaurant. The room was older with spectacular views and new furniture. The resort sits up on a hill so be careful in poor weather, there were a couple of other guests who had difficulty driving in the snow. We also snow shoed one day as the resort had snow shoe rentals with marked trails, it was good work out....
We will go back. The lake views must be gorgous in the summer.
