We stayed one night on Nov 5 2011. I checked the room first as I was concerned with some of the other comments. It was clean and there were no odors. The lobby is in need of more frequent vacuuming and the stairways need to be checked for junk people leave, there was a 2 liter bottle left and never picked up even though I saw hotel employees use the stairway. Breakfast was adequate. All in all not bad for the price.

Just spent almost 3 weeks at this property. Our room on the 3rd floor (see previous review) was ok with the exception of a strong urine odor. We think that the odor was coming from the carpet and as the room became warmer, the odor got worse. I've been a loyal La Quinta customer since the 70's but when they changed their policy ,a couple of years ago' to allow pets of any size in any room, I've noticed that their quality has gone downhill. I don't think that I would stay here again due to the odor problems.

Room was clean, service was good. Only thing, door was ajar when I checked in and it smelled like cheap perfume. Kind of weird, guessing housekeeping left the door open. Other than that, pleasant stay. Free breakfast. Friendly front desk.

Room Tip: Right of of the highway.

I stayed at this hotel some years ago when it was the Fairfield Inn (and was newer). I am surprised for a LaQuinta at the quality of this hotel. We would have stayed at the Holiday Inn across the street, but they were sold out. The hallway on the floor we stayed (third) had a very bad odor, like a litter box. I believe they allow pets at this hotel, so that could be the reason, but it still is NOT acceptable when you are paying $100 a night. There was bad smell in the room itself. The rooms are fairly tight, so if you are more than two, you need to move the desk chair to maneuver around the sofa bed without hitting your toes. The pergo type floor in the entryway/ bathroom looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned and there was some blue paint or toothpaste on the bathroom wall over the toilet paper holder.
The breakfast was not awful, but the waffle batter was too sweet and there was no drinking water, just juice and coffee. We've stayed in several LaQuinta's and this was probably the lowest on the list.

Room Tip: 1/2 mile up the street is the Black Water Grille - highly recommended. If you can, stay at the Holiday Inn instead.

Great location just off I-93 and close to the mall, shops and restaurants. Wonderful rooms: large screen HD television, strong wi-fi signal (free), very quiet rooms, comfortable beds and extremely clean. Hotel staff is very friendly and professional. Delicious breakfast. A 5 star hotel at 3 star price! I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in the Salem, NH area.

Room Tip: Room 106 is exceptional, spacious room with queen bed and sofa. The manager, Carol, will go out of her way to make your stay perfect.
