Hubby decided we should go out for breakfast this morning, so he googled "best breakfast in Salem" and Sammy J's was at the top of the list. Well, I don't know if it's the best in Salem because this happened to be our first breakfast out since we moved here. But I can definitely say that it was very, very good.
I had eggs benedict and the eggs were poached perfectly. Hubby's breakfast included a generous portion of ham along with sausage and bacon. The big hit of the meal was the homefries. They were absolutely delish - fried red potatoes with a great bacon flavor, probably cooked in the bacon fat. And they were obviously freshly done. I would go back just for the potatoes!
Service was friendly, the food came very hot, and the bill was quite reasonable. This is the kind of place where people become "regulars" and the servers recognize you as soon as you walk in the door.
Be sure to bring cash - I'm pretty sure they don't take credit cards. And note that this is a breakfast restaurant until noon, then it's an ice cream shop!
And it's located at 144 Main St., not 67 Main St. Not sure if they've moved recently but it's definitely 144 Main St.
