Yes, the decor is dated but the food and service offered here more than make up for it. Personally, it's the food and atmosphere I'm focused on when eating out, not the fact that the establishment still has wallpaper and mahogany wainscoting.
Alexander's is more suited to adult dining although well-behaved children are not an uncommon sight here. The dining room consists of tables, no booths, and is fairly open and certainly isn't the place for unruly or overly active children; but that's exactly why my husband and I enjoy coming here when we'd like a quiet meal together.
The Mushrooms and the Broccoli offered as appetizers are wonderful and the mushrooms in particular offer plenty of oil for bread dipping.
Both the Chicken and Veal Parmesan have been consistently good for years! The portions are large and we often have some to take home to enjoy the next day. The Broiled Italian Sausage is also excellent. If you really want to splurge try the Roasted Rib of Veal...you won't be disappointed.
Alexander's is a hidden gem in this area and is a refreshing change from all the chain restaurants that inundate the area now. It is one of the few places left that hasn't gone mainstream and we say 'good for them'!!
