“Ceres is da bomb :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

The Ceres Bakery is an institution in Portsmouth, having been here for nearly 35 years. Great bread and unbelievably delicious cookies (filled with yummy things like chunks of chocolate, walnuts, pecans, coconut, ginger, lemon, etc. -- not your standard fare cookie!), and also some really well made and healthy soups, salads, etc. There are a few tables at the Ceres and lots of take-out trade. Highly recommended. If you're in Portsmouth you need to try SOMETHING from Ceres!

“great old school Portsmouth hang”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

Fresh bread, quiche, soup selection, sandwiches, desserts and bulletin board. Where locals stop for a quick 'to go' lunch, or hang out and hide out from the tourists who overrun the town in the summer months. This place hasn't changed since I first started coming here 30 years ago; the food is still just as good, the staff just as friendly and the atmosphere just as down to earth.

When we visit we go to this bakery for breakfast and pickup sandwiches for the beach. Awesome fresh food and really considerate service. Amazing iced tea!

“Cozy, Delicious, Delightful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

This bakery has been around 33 years with the same owner! Upon entering, you immediately feel the good energy. They make wonderful breads and pastries, with a special bread made every day of the week. They've got excellent coffee, great sandwiches for lunch, and a specialty iced tea. Seating is available in the active zone, quiet seating "in the back" and seating along the sidewalk. The name comes from the fact that, pre-911 system, it was Ceres Street; but that was changed years ago. It is now called Penhallow St., but the name Ceres Bakery stays!

“A Nice Little Bakery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

We stopped into the Ceres Bakery to get a some desserts. We chose the Amaretti cookie, Hermit, Chocolate Chip cookie, Coconut shortbread and the Turtle bars. We took everything home to try and loved all of it. The Turtle bar is like a Pecan Praline with chocolate spread on top. They were all fresh and delicious. We also got a loaf of the Norwegian wheat bread to have with dinner. It was soft and a nice addition to the meal. I'll be having some toasted with peanut butter for lunch. They have salads and sandwiches which we also plan to try. We recommend you stop by this bakery whenever you get the chance.
