Fries are delicious, atmosphere is like no other. Always a smile and good food cheap. Love this little spot and so do the kids!

“best hot dog in new england”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

A random fellow in a parking lot recommended this place for good, cheap food. It was quick, simple, yummy food. Fun atmosphere. Best cheese fries ever. Everything made to order. Bargain dinner for under $10 for two of us.

“Small but great”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

The burgers are the best with an old fashion diner taste. The place is very small but don't let that fool you. Very good prices for the great taste, and very friendly cook.

“Great late night snack”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

The hot dogs were a warm and welcome treat late at night as you're passing through Portsmouth. Located conveniently right behind the parking garage, we were able to walk right in and order two dogs with the poutine to go. The poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds) were salty but a nice compliment to the hot dogs. The service was quick and friendly and we would definitely visit again.

“A historic landmark!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

My wife and I both graduated from UNH so during our college days we used to head to Gilley's for a late night dog and a plate of beans or some fries - that was 40 years ago when the truck was mobile, parked nightly at a specific location and Gilley himself actually served up the fare! We used to tell our kids about Gilley's and one daughter was very interested in experiencing it for herself so on a recent trip back to NH we made the pilgramage back to a local landmark.

Now Gilley's is no longer a lunch truck, but built in place and somewhat expanded from the original, and of course Gilley himself is gone. There are only 2 parking places right in front and all other parking is on the street. It is very small, with just a little counter around the inside of the truck where you can sit at a stool and eat - probably only about 10-12 stools. We got there right when it opened at 11:00 am, the only time I've ever been there in the daylight! We just had some grilled hot dogs and fries and they were excellent - prices are very reasonable.

While the food is just basic grill fare, and good, for me Gilley's is all about a local Portsmouth landmark and some great memories from the college days. If you're in the area, it's worth the trip!
