I was recently in Portsmouth before traveling back home and decided to stop in for some lunch. Portsmouth is a great little town and this was a very nice place. It was a tad on the pricy side, however the food was good and the staff and locals were very friendly. I enjoyed myself a great deal and would reccomend this place.

We selected Rudi's to celebrate a birthday, selected as we were able to get a reservation for 7 the week-end before Christmas on short notice. We found the atmosphere conducive for conversation and enjoying our dinner companions. Live music in the background was just that, in the background. At first the group was divided on the menu, several options for the more adventurous diners and limited options for the "plain food" types in the group. Once meals were brought out, everyone was delighted. Seafood, duck, pork shank and beef tenderloin entrees were all well prepared and presented. Complete satisfaction with all salads, entrees, desserts and the wine. Only recommendation would be to get more appropriate chairs, the chairs are old rickety ones that I fear were older than the birthday girl!

My wife and I travel every December to a number of her company's Holiday Parties around the country and the event at Rudi's was, by far, the best evening of 2013. The bar included a cute posting of what was available for the guests, the event crew that wandered through the gathering with hors d'oeuvres were full of personality, and Maureen, the Event Manager, was spot on for all of our needs.

So….how was the food? The appetizers (miniature chicken satays, bacon wrapped scallops, small tasty samosas, and little pastry cups of a crab mix) all had great presentations. It's more fun to admire the look of your food, then eat it, then glance around quickly , trying to figure out where that plate went so you can have another bite. Yummy start to the evening!!

For the 30+ of us we were asked to stay with the chicken, steak, and salmon choices and if Maureen had brought samples to try before ordering, I'm certain that most of the room would have dined on "maple syrup glazed salmon". The steaks and chicken were tender, cooked to perfection and those folks were happy. The salmon eaters were happier!

Desserts were hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream and a hot molten chocolate round cake, both a wonderful finishing touch. A lot of sharing was going on at our table. When a restaurant serves this quality of food, it really makes for delightful conversation…..and satisfied customers. It's also nice when a lot of the folks remark as they're leaving, "I hope we come back to Rudi's next year!"

I'd contact Maureen, get the scoop on what's possible, and then let her run with it. She's that good! Rudi's was that good!

We have had dinner several times at Rudi's and each time it has been great. The waitstaff is personable and attentive and the food was great. We each had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. We also go for drinks there. The music is great and the atmosphere is relaxing and fun.

Rudi's was our second choice for dinner for the evening, and boy are we glad we ended up there! The atmosphere and service is fanastic. There was a piano/upright bass duo, which was perfectly charming. They even took our requests! Our waiter was very attentive, and made sure everything tasted and looked good. We sat near the bar, and enjoyed the spirited conversation and sophisticated feel of the place. It was warm and welcome, and we truly felt as though we were taken care of.
