We originally planned on eating at the Portsmouth Brewery but walked by "Fat Belly's" and decided to give it a try. We were very glad we did. We didn't want a huge lunch so we just ordered appetizers, wings and potato skins. We ordered half teriyaki and half hot garlic wings, and both were delicious. Very large, meaty wings- we ordered ours grilled not fried and they were perfect. The potato skins were also very large and very good, not overly fried and dried out as skins sometimes tend to be. There was a large amount of potato left on the skins, making them almost like halves of baked potatoes more than just skins. The atmosphere is fun, definitely an old-time bar with a lot of tv screens and different games going on. Everyone looked to be having a great time, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be recommending Fat Belly's to our friends who will be traveling through Portsmouth!

We were in search of a particular college football game and the folks at Fat Belly's were willing to put our game on the TV of our choice! The place filled up over lunch... It appeared like most were there for the food, not for the sports! We were curious about a pumpkin beer and the bartender offered us a sample to make sure we liked it before we ordered. The menu was a step up from a typical bar menu and the service was great---

Went upstairs because we heard they had an "ice bar". Unfortunately, the ice bar (which was just a strip of ice, not entire bar made of ice) was cold, but the beer on tap was not. A bottled hard iced tea was cold and delicious. Two cups of clam chowder were tasty but the broth not as thick as we expected, but we enjoyed it. Pleasant bartender, decent price. Ice bar is actually a regular bar with a 5" strip of ice running the length of the bar. Nice tv so we could watch the Red Sox losing while we ate. Might return again if in the area, but would not go out of our way.

First time eating at Fat Belly's, restaurant nice, loved sitting in the corner and watching the street traffic. One of our girls ordered the chili cheese fries and it said "heaping", and it sure was. Lots of food for the price. I had THE BEST chowder there! Reasonably priced. I'd definitely go back again!

Don't be turned off by the hole in the wall look of this little gem in downtown Portsmouth. Hubbies tender roast beef sandwich came on 2 thick slices of yummy bread and was piled with loads of melt in your mouth roast beef plus a mountain of fries. I had an 8oz piece of fresh fried haddock on a soft bun with lettuce and tomato served with a huge amount of sweet potato fries...yummy! We sat by the window and enjoyed watching the crowds of tourists go by. The prices were very reasonable, the service a little slow but all in all a great place to visit.
