“snowed inn”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

I spent six days at this hotel and I couldn't be more pleased with the staff at this HGI. There was a snowstorm and I needed to extend my stay just one day, I called the front desk to let them know my flight was cancelled but they were completely booked. John told me not to worry if he did not have a cancellation w/in a few hours he would check around and find me a room at another hotel. He called me and told me there were no cancellations but he had made me a reservation at the hotel around the corner --- he handled it all got me the same rate passed on my cc info I didn't have to do a thing --- He also had someone carry my bags to the other hotel in a snowstorm. I have stayed at this hotel many times it's the only hotel I will stay at while in Portsmouth. The location is ideal you can walk everywhere to great restaurants, shopping Music Hall. They went above and beyond in my opinion, I will be back!!!

I wish this property had existed when I lived in Portsmouth in the mid-2000s! Fantastic location in walking distance to everything downtown. Rooms are standard HGI quality which is to say quite satisfactory. Friendly service with a nice bar area and lounge in the evenings. Don't know if they still have live jazz on certain nights but that was a nice touch when I experienced it. If you can get a deal on a rate then this may very well be the best option downtown, ahead of the Sheraton and other boutique properties.

I spent a girls' weekend in Portsmouth mid-March. The Hilton Garden Inn was wonderful. The staff was truly helpful and friendly. The Lobby personnel were knowledgeable about where to go for food, drinks, etc. The rooms were clean and the beds were fabulously comfy.

The bar has live music many nights and the bartenders made great cocktails. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The "limited-view" rooms have a nice view too!

Summary: this hotel is a model of great design, service and execution.

Arrived at the height of a tough Winter. Was it awesome to have valet service and a warmed up, cleaned car on demand? Yes it was.

But that is only part of the story. From the morning dip in the hot tub and "can you challenge the performance kitchen" breakfast to the late night travel advice from Emily and the house man, a memorable stay results. Advice to visit Nubble Light at dawn on a stormy morning was well considered.

Highly professional in all regards. A little more expensive, but great.

Steps to everything!! Check out Fat Bellies and Surf Restaurant. Also check to see who they have at the hotel for entertainment. Fantastic accoustic band played while we were there. Front desk amazing. Valet parking only.

Stayed here for three nights on a recent trip to the states. I found this hotel to be efficient, clean and friendly. I didn't dine in the hotel - no need as this is well located for local restaurants in the area. The room was spacious, and even the coffee provided was good. Valet parking was available, which for a visitor from the UK is a novelty. The reception staff were very welcoming. The room itself was quiet, but my only complaint would be that the air conditioning system was quite loud. The shower provided a good stream of hot water, which isn't something nessecarily to take for granted in some place - maybe its common in the States, but it can be pretty variable in the UK and Europe.
Checkout was quick, and uncomplicated. Overall the hotel felt reasonably quiet, despite the fact that there were many people checking in and out.
Didn't try the gym, but colleagues tell me it was small but functional. I think it's best asset is location, but wouldn't be adverse to staying here again.

Just stayed here March 9th & 10th with my wife. I had business nearby close to Boston and had never stayed in Portsmouth before and wanted to give it a try. This hotel was perfect! The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The room was large comfortable and well appointed. They serve a great breakfast at the hotel until noon, but there are so many great places to eat within a five minute walking distance that need to be considered. The first night for dinner the front desk guy suggested "Surf" restaurant (2) blocks away. One of the nicest dinning experiences ever.
We can't wait until we have another opportunity to get back to this hotel.
