“Favorite restaurant in Portsmouth”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

My mother and I eat here every time we come to Portsmouth and it doesn't disappoint. Delicious steak, great unique decor and a wonderful little bar for a post-meal drink. Fantastic!

“A wonderful meal”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Visiting friends, we had our first visit to the Library but hopefully it will not be the last. My Caesar salad was the best I have had in memory--the anchovy and parmesan were in just the right proportions and my porterhouse was superb. My wife's lobster pie was,she said "simply great." Our companion's rack of lamb looked scrumptious and she confirmed that it was. A great wine list and delightful service made for a perfect evening.

“Great food”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

I attended a company dinner at this restaurant. The building had plenty of character. Our group was in a separate "event" room with our own wait staff. The meal was fantastic and the service was excellent. One of the better steaks I've had in quite a while. As the name suggests, the decor resembled a library. I noticed that only our room appeared to be air-conditioned, so the patrons at the bar were hanging around in 80 degree warmth. Clean restrooms.

“Great Food”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We went on Saturday, August 3 for dinner and after walking in the heat from our hotel, we entered the restaurant to find that they did not have the air conditioning on. It was very uncomfortable in there and even the bartender was sweating, not very attractive. It was a very warm evening, so we could not understand why they did not have the restaurant comfortable. We would have left immediately, but had a gift card to use and do not go to Portsmouth very often. After about an hour, we were seated in the dining room and they JUST put on their air conditioners and naturally, it was too late because the heat had already taken over. Aside from being uncomfortable, the food is great. We have never had a meal there that we did not thoroughly enjoy. So, I would recommend this restaurant for the food, but just don't go on a hot night.

“Perfect In Every Way”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

The Library is on a par with the best steak houses in New York City. The décor is dark wood and elegant. The wine list is excellent. Our appetizers were perfect - crab meat cocktails. Our steaks - sirloins- were cooked as ordered, tender and of the finest quality. This is one of the few restaurants that knows how to properly cook steak fries. The menu offers several steak and meat selections but also a significant number of seafood dishes. Our server although fairly young, did an excellent job and was very friendly. Did not get to dessert although they looked superb. The only negative is the difficulty in finding parking in the area so give yourself a couple of minutes in case you have to hike to the restaurant.
