Does Portsmouth NH, which already sports some 150 dining establishments, need another? The answer, in the case of LoMo, is "yes." LoMo brings a new energy and a new menu to what was formerly the space of the Green Monkey. The only detail that remains from that earlier restaurant is the tendency of the room to get loud when crowded. But so be it. Loud is just fine when the food placed before you is exceptional.
The appetizers we tried were fresh, appealing, and delicious. Particularly the Charcuterie and a gravlax and pickled vegetable veloute. They matched well with the spirits from the bar, which were amply served.
Then there is a class by itself: the roasted organic chicken. Presently listed as a daily add-on, it should be a regular on the LoMo menu. The incredibly tender and tasty one-half chicken floated above perfectly matched sauce, and the foie gras that held it up melted like butter. Really. That good.
And the service. It could not have been more attentive, pleasant, and informative. Keep this up LoMo, and you might just top off the ranks of the best dining in this very proud-to-dine-out Seacoast NH area.
