We celebrated our anniversary with an early dinner on a Sunday - a quiet day in historic Portsmouth. Picked the Cafe from the Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed with its friendly wait-staff and generous table spacing. Excellent chowder appetizer; Largest, most flavorful frogs legs entrée ever. Also really excellent duck breast, suitably pink. The California Malbec was surprisingly smoother than most I've had from the Argentine.

Out of the 3 restaurants we ate at, Cafe Mirabelle was exceptional in every respect. Cozy and inviting atmosphere upon arrival with a gas log fireplace and roses on every table. Very attentive, well versed waitstaff. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection, well seasoned and presentation was a 10! We felt the value exceeded any other eatery. Although Cafe Mirabelle is a little off the beaten path(walking distance from Market Square) in many ways that adds to the experience as we enjoyed the intimate and somewhat European feel of this restaurant and were able to have conversation over dinner without yelling! Would definitely recommend and hope to return!

We have lived here in Portsmouth for eleven years and this is our favorite restaurant- the one we take out-of-town guests to. The upstairs dining room is divine in the evening when you can see the skyline of the city, and the more intimate downstairs dining room is cozy during the week. We have celebrated birthdays, new jobs, and many other events here and have never been disappointed. When my husband wanted to know how to fix the special potato dish, Stephan invited him into the kitchen one afternoon and showed him how. I had to buy my husband a mandolin as a Christmas present so he could make Stephan's recipe! The food is always excellent- we recommend Cafe Mirabelle without reservation!

Cafe Mirabelle is a surprisingly nice restaurant in a house just outside of the downtown area. You can walk there easily. Food and service are excellent and when you bring people here, they'll be impressed by the discovery that you made.
