“BURNT TOAST WITH A VIEW !”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2012

We found this little cafe on the way to viewing the Lighthouse in Newcastle .We thought we d try a snack as the road on the way to the lighthouse was closed for the day never did see it !
We sat on the covered over deck which had a good view of the water. That was the best thing about the place I had a cheese toasty although the waiter wanted me to have the fish dishes .
I dont know what the cook was doing when she was cooking my toast but it was burnt so if they cant cook toast ! it was a small portion also with a bag of crisps thrown in funny thing to have with cheese on toast !
My husband had a chicken salad sandwich which was passable but not very exciting
We wont go back .

“Great view, bad food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2012

With so many wonderful restaurants in Portsmouth, don't waste you time here. The servers are not very pleasant, the chowders are flavorless and watered down and the prices are much too high for the low quality food.

“This is what a New England Chowder House is all about”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2011

This restaurant, started in 1965 is still run by the same family. That says something. Excellent food for lunch - chowder, crab/lobster rolls showcases what New Hampshire has to offer. Absolutely worth a visit. It is only a stone's throw from the famous historical "Strawberry Banke" area.

“The view is the best part”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2011

Go for the view, but don't expect to be amazed by the food. Lobster rolls are good but they'd be better with less mayo. Chowder is a disappointment (think of it as warm milk with clams). Service isn't very good. Some servers are good, some are awful (today's was really bad). Management doesn't seem to like dealing with the public but honestly, enough years of dealing with tourists can do that. Want to get the most out of lunch at Geno's? Have a lobster roll, enjoy the view, and don't be in a rush.

“Great lobster roll, disappointing mussels and warm beer.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2011

I loved that my lobster roll had 5 1/2 ounces of good-size lobster chunks and no celery, just a light touch of mayo. The toasted roll was unbuttered, which I appreciated. It was an excellent lobster roll. ( I ordered the Jumbo and they do indicate the amount of lobster in each of their rolls.) My brother was disappointed in his steamed mussels and his beer was warm, which for him was not good. However, he didn't let our server know of his feelings. I wish he had because I think she would have fixed it. My son enjoyed his hand-made hamburger and ordered another, as he was still hungry. The service was excellent.
