Description: Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jumpin' Jay's is a local foodie enclave serving refined seafood in a sleek restaurant setting. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties of fish appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of gourmet sauce. Our raw bar offers an extensive variety of shellfish found in New Hampshire. Our specialties menu offers more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cakes, Haddock Piccata and our popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open seven nights a week.

We had dinner here one evening because the restaurant was within a short walk from our hotel, and we are very glad we did. The food was delicious, but the service and friendliness of the entire staff made it special.

Went with 2 great friends on Monday evening and by six, the restaurant was packed. In spite of that, service was attentive and professional; food was totally without possibility of complaint. We all chose baked flounder which is not commonly on many restaurants menus and we're not disappointed. Jays is now our 2d most favorite restaurant in Portsmouth but 2d only because of a personal preference for French food, not because of any shortcomings at this place.

I had Lemon Fennel Fettuccini (pictured) and it was excellent, starting with Asparagus Arugula Salad. One dining partner had an Ahi tuna special that was perfectly cooked, but quite skimpy for $32 (no starch to speak of), and our other dining partner had the grilled swordfish that was over-cooked and also skimpy. A neighboring table had some very generous looking calamari and mussel appetizers.

Depending on your appetite and familiarity with their menu, I can see how one could end up being either very happy or very disappointed dining here.

Best service ever anywhere. Haddock piccata to absolutely die for. Best piccata I have ever had. Buck a shuck oysters were great and one of the best salads we have had in ages. We have not given many five stars out but they certainly get one
