Description: Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jumpin' Jay's is a local foodie enclave serving refined seafood in a sleek restaurant setting. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties of fish appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of gourmet sauce. Our raw bar offers an extensive variety of shellfish found in New Hampshire. Our specialties menu offers more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cakes, Haddock Piccata and our popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open seven nights a week.

The food was very good. Service was great. Very local place. Been here twice. Will come here again. One of my favorite places in downtown Portsmouth.

“Great seafood”
Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

Ate here for a business dinner. Staff was very patient and helpful. Nice atmosphere and we had a large table in the rear that was perfect for our party.

We enjoyed the oysters and shrimp cocktail. The selection of local and fresh seafood was terrific and the variety of sauces was nice as well. I enjoyed the house specialty of the haddock piccata and it was great. Everyone else in our party was satisfied as well. The prices aren't cheap but the service and quality was worth it. One of our party from Germany asked for some of the oyster shells to take home for her children and our server was kind enough to personally wash them for overseas transport. I look forward to a return visit.

“Solid choice for dining in Portsmouth”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

If you're looking for good, clean seafood in Portsmouth... Jumpin' Jays is it. If you love oysters on the half shell, one of the best features of Jumpin' Jays is their "buck a shuck" oysters during the fall and winter months on Tuesday nights. The restaurant can get very crowded, tables are fairly close together and it's usually full, so reservations help. We like that you can choose from many local catches, and select which type of sauce you want it prepared with. Nice touch.

“One of the Best”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

Even though we live in Eastern Long Island on the ocean, we have no seafood restaurants as good as Jumping Jays. We started with the tuna poke appetizer, and had as entrees their seafood curry and blackened swordfish. Both dishes were amazing, and neither my wife nor I could pick a favorite they were that good. They offered a over a dozen fresh fish, with at least half of them, being local.

Would recommend to anyone who loves seafood.
