After passing by some of the other spots on Bow Street that look out over the water, we stopped in here on a late Saturday afternoon for a drink and a nibble. This is certainly the nicest place in downtown Portsmouth -- in terms of furniture, perspective -- to sit outdoors and take in a view of the Piscataqua River. Service was very fast and friendly. We had a couple of well made cocktails that were reasonably priced and tried an order of the ribs. Six good sized ribs were quite tender and had a nice flavor -- just right for two people looking to ward off the hunger pangs until dinner.

I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but we'll certainly be back to take in the view and enjoy a cocktail.

Extremely busy yet still very good service. 4 of us shared 4 appetizers and all were excellent. Great view and loved the atmosphere in the bar area. Will definitely go back again to try a full meal.

I'm giving this three bullets only because the outdoor deck and views are spectacular. The food, not so much. We were a party of five, looking to celebrate an upcoming baby, and hoping for a special evening. We were disappointed. Three of us had the Caesar salad and the same reaction. Really no taste at all. The polenta croutons were novel and good, but the salad itself had literally no taste. The anchovies were the only flavor. Three of the entrees were ok, scallops and chicken. Two of us had fish, tuna and a special that day, bass. Both were cooked to death and were dry and tough. So, $250 for bad salad and worse fish. We won't be going back.

We went in to celebrate a retirement. The restaurant is hidden away, but has beautiful views over the Piscataqua River. It was a bit cold & rainy when we were there, so we sat inside. A table by the window would be nice if you need to stay in. In nice weather the deck seating would be great. There are tables that have a fire-pit in the center. The menu is quite pricey. We did not stay for dinner. We opted to have some drinks and apps. and move on.

Tried Martingale Wharf for a celebration dinner. What a mistake. We could hardly fit our party of four in the reception area because it was packed wall-to-wall with a gaggle of surly teenage hostesses who were presumably hired as eye candy, because they were absolutely useless. Watched as three went to check on the same table without communicating with each other, only to aggravate an already crowded and disorganized dining situation. When we were seated, waiting a good 5-7 minutes before anyone even came to our table, we entertained ourselves watching the five hostesses walk laps around the bar to look busy. Meanwhile, the servers were clearly under-staffed since we had to ask ours three times for our drinks, and received more help and attention from the bus boys than our waitress the entire night. More to the point, we came to MW because half of our party is vegetarian and it's always a struggle trying to find a restaurant that makes everyone happy. Sadly, MW did not live up to its promises. The kitchen was out of one of the only three veg options, the portobello Wellington, forcing two of us to choose between the usual nasty black bean burger or stir fry. (We were HUGELY disappointed.) We could have ordered the exact same things in our hometown restaurant and saved the drive and the expense. And it was such a deal breaker that ordinarily we would have gotten up and left, but our rude waitress waited a good half hour to take our order and only then informed us that two of our four meals were unavailable because "another party just ordered them all. Weird." (A problem that could have been avoided if she took our order twenty minutes earlier...) Our waitress' philosophy was clearly "You're dinner sucks. You're out of luck. I don't care." No apologies. So after our celebration turned into a tepid round of overpriced burgers, the one meat order, a "chef's special", arrived slopped together and burned to a crisp, and filled with extremely tough, slimy, inedible, and unidentifiable greens. If our waitress had checked on us (ever) it would have been sent back, but that wasn't going to happen and for the sake of the group it was eaten. When she finally returned and he pointed out how extremely unappetizing the greens were, our waitress's immediate response was "well you ate the burger, right?" Not the response we were looking for. Nor was the condescending "you know, sometimes organic greens are just like that..." Yeah, especially when the chefs don't know how to cook them. So, all told, it was a terrible dining experience in a lovely restaurant. Best thing that could happen is they go out of business and someone who knows what they're doing can reopen it. Otherwise, just go with low expectations and money to throw away... Word.
