The rooms are decorated in soothing "surf and turf" colors (tones of bluish greys and chocolate browns) against modern furniture (lamps, etc) and electronics. You can find antique bottles, books, and a very unique lamp (see hotel's website for pic) in the lobby of the second floor. The innkeeper was very informative and provided maps of the area indicating local restaurants and other points of interest. Try Colby's for breakfast, It's amazing. A state-of the-art coffee maker and small refrigerator are conveniently provided in guest rooms with an assorment of flavored coffees and teas. Lastly, the parking is right across the inn. Just park and walk about town.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind words. We ourselves are fans of a great night sleep in a comfortable bed and robust coffee to get us going the following morning! We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and we look forward to your next visit to downtown Portsmouth.

Extremely convenient and friendly. Good location near downtown Portsmouth, but not on busy streets (a bit of noise from the staff of late shows in theater downstairs). Seemed a bit pricey for the accommodations, but the budget chains cost more, and we could not find them! We had the smallest basic room, but got a discount on price. Since we were out & about, the room was more then adequate and the fabulous coffee maker and fridge (for our wine & picnic supplies) were a bonus. We got great help with finding restaurant suggestions and tips on where to hear music. Only problem was that we were trapped by wedding guests in the parking lot, so if you stay here, be sure to move your car from a 2 car slot early in the morning.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights over a weekend during a tour of New England. Once at the hotel you do not need to use your car again - everything is in easy walking distance. The hotel only has 10 rooms - I think two are suites but our room was just right for a long weekend. The bed was very comfortable - firm which is to our liking and the decor is excellent - modern and clean lines - well thought out. The guy on reception was very helpful. Plenty of places close by to eat, including breakfasts (no food at this aparthotel). On the Saturday night we ate at Massimos (Italian) only 3 minutes walk away and the food was exceptional but you will need to book. If you are visiting Portsmouth we would recommend this Hotel as ideal. The only real downside is that there is a flight of steps before you reach the elevator which takes you up to the floor of thr old ale house where the hotel is. If we visit Portsmouth again we would definately go back there.

Inn is on second floor of old Ale Warehouse that also houses first floor theater and third floor condos. Doug Palardy is the proprietor and did everyhting in his power to make our stay a special experience. We were extremely satisfied with the proximity to shopping, restaurants and the waterfront. An all around very enjoyable experience.

The Ale House Inn was wonderful place to stay and I have already been recommending it to people if they ever go to Portsmouth.

The Inn itself is on the second floor above a theater and below a few condos. Beware that there are a lot of steps so either bring lighter luggage like we did or take up the owner's offer to help you carry your luggage up the steps.

The room was lovely. We stayed in the Deluxe Queen room and while it surely wasn't the biggest room I have ever stayed in it was close to the most comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the linens where lovely. The room was very nicely decorated with all the most modern amenities like a flat screen TV, iPod Dock (that I found was iPhone compatible, a huge plus for me since not all are) and all modern furnishings and art. The bathroom was clean and nicely furnished as well. Having a fridge with a freezer, as well as wine glasses, corkscrew, two bottles of water each day and a Kurig coffee maker with an assortment of coffees each day was a huge plus too.

The location was perfect. We parked the car right across from the Inn and didn't drive anywhere after that. The owner is very helpful and very nice. The map and quick tour of Portsmouth he gave us when we got there was very helpful and everyday he couldn't have been more helpful if we needed anything.

The only downside is that I found the walls to be a bit thin. While there are only 10 rooms and it is usually very quiet, but you can hear people in the hallway pretty easily and one morning or neighbor had the TV up really loud and I could hear it a bit. But it generally wasn't a problem.

We really had a great time and a very relaxing vacation thanks in large part to the Ale House Inn

Most comfortable bed, perfect location, attention to detail, excellent service! The owner is a true host, attentive and knowledgeable. Extra touches like an area map with suggestions for dinning, nightlife, shopping etc. A deck of cards, ipod dock and cork screw made my stay even more enjoyable!
