“A very pleasant place to walk around”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We were staying just outside the centre of Portsmouth but were able to park in a large car park near the centre of town. It was a bright sunny day and Portsmouth looked at its best. There were loads of shop's and cafe's and places to sit and watch the world go by. There are a number of historic buildings in the area and restored sea front is just a short walk away. The Market Place and Portsmouth are well worth a visit

“A wide variety of shops, cafes, restaurants”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Within three blocks in any direction of market square are a wide variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants. After touring this for a day and a half, we wish there were more towns like this. Shops ranged from upscale (nothing less than $200) through mid range all the way to "everything in store $20 or less". Besides regular stores, there were also a number of resale, consignment, and estate sale shops. If you want a café that serves tea, baked goods, and a glass of wine, no problem here. Parking was plentiful and not expensive (the garages are cheaper than on the street parking and you can leave your car in the garage all day). We will go back here.

“Most of the shops are only open during regular business hours, so if you are interested in shopping, plan accordingly”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We liked downtown Portsmouth and the Market Square area very much! We were staying at the Sheraton, so it was just a short walk away. We headed down there on Wed evening after we arrived and knocked around a bit, shopped a bit, and ended up having a lovely dinner at the River House out on the deck with a stunning view!

Next morning, we did another walk about Market Square and my wife found a great pair of shoes and a great sweater to buy.

Well worth a few hours walk about. Most of the shops are only open during regular business hours, so if you are interested in shopping, plan accordingly.
