“Comfortable and convenient; good value”
Reviewed September 9, 2006

I chose the Port Inn based on Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed. The lobby is very inviting and the staff very friendly. We were in the back of the main building in an economy room which was very comfortable, particularly the mattress and the wonderful down/feather pillows (pillows are usually my #1 complaint). I was able to relax as it was very quiet and even a recliner chair is provided to read or watch TV. The included continental breakfast was good but did not provide any hot foods, but it was promoted as a continental breakfast so I am OK with that.

For seafood dinner, try the Dinner Horn about a mile down the road. Very good.

Our family of 5 stayed here for one weekend night in August 2006. I felt the rate was plenty high ($152.95 plus $6 rollaway AAA rate for a regular double room) but it was similar to other area hotels. As others have posted, the rooms are delightfully decorated and furnished--it almost seemed more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel room. It was a fun change of pace for our family after a week and a half of chain hotels. Staff was enthusiastic, gracious and helpful. They are very willing to give directions; I would strongly suggest that you listen to them!

I would echo most of the glowing comments that other reviewers have contributed. I will say, however, for a family of 5, a double room with a rollaway was very snug. The bathroom is placed in a corner of the room, instead of at the end as in most chain hotels. When the first person got up and used the shower it sounded like the shower was in the middle of the room and woke everyone up. Not a big deal but may be a consideration for you.

For our family, the biggest advantage was that they offer an $11 discount per adult ticket (anyone over 48") if you are going to the nearby water park "Water Country." For us, that was a $55 savings, and made the hotel a very good deal.

I would have absolutely loved this hotel if it had been just my husband and me--now there's an idea! :-)

This is a well-maintained and run motel in a good location near to the interstate and also within easy reach of downtown Portsmouth. The rooms are well-furnished and clean and the front desk staff are very helpful. Breakfast is limited but adequate and because of lack of space you may end up eating it in your room. Finally, if heading for Portsmouth centre ask for directions its one of the most confusing places I have visited !

Our family of five stayed for 5 days at The Port Inn. I have to say as someone who travels a lot, that this was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've seen! We booked the family suite, room 117. It was two rooms (3 double beds) with a connecting bath. Fridge, microwave were a plus. Even though it is on the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, we never heard traffic inside our rooms. The pool, though small, was very nice and had lots of lounge chairs. There was not a hot tub.
It was a definite bonus that they have a washer & dryer ($1 each) available for guests to use, and they even supply the laundry detergent!
The staff was friendly and very helpful in suggesting restaurants and things to do in the area, along with directions.
The complimentary breakfast consisted of bagels/toast, coffee cake, scones, apples, coffee/tea or juice. It would have been nice to have yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit....but you can't really complain when it is free...can you?
Although the rooms are on the smaller side, they were very nicely decorated.
We would stay here again, if in the area.
A note to anyone traveling to the Maine/New Hampshire area.........DON'T FORGET YOUR INSECT REPELLENT!!! The mosquitos are awful! Not just in the evening but all day long.

We had a stopover in Portsmouth, NH on our way to Maine and we decided to stay at the Port Inn based on reviews on line. When I called for reservations, they were extremely polite. And upon arriving, we got lost. I called once again for directions and they stayed on the line with me giving me turn by turn directions. The room was extremely nice and clean. And the staff was exceptionally kind as well as knowledgable of the area. The hotel was right off the highway and a very short drive to downtown. If we ever visit Portsmouth again, we will definitely stay here.

Now for my only complaint, the contintental breakfast was average.
