“Nice Lobster Roll”
Review of The Beach Plum

The Beach Plum
Ranked #19 of 204 Restaurants in Portsmouth
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $10 - $30
Cuisines: Seafood, Soups
Description: The Beach Plum opened in 1992 at North Hampton state beach as a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The next year, a better location became available just down the street (at it's current location) and it became a take out food and ice cream stand. That original location continues to operate seasonally April - October each year. Based on strong growth in the business at that beach location, a second Beach Plum location was opened at 2800 Lafayette Road (Route 1) in Portsmouth on St Patrick's Day 2011. This Portsmouth location features an expanded menu that includes award winning fried seafood with both indoor and outside deck dining. The Portsmouth Beach Plum was featured on TV Diner in 2012 and Phantom Gourmet in 2011 which named it as a Great 8 restaurant for both it's famous lobster rolls AND fried clams. The Beach Plum is believed to be the only restaurant in New England to be so honored as 1 of the 8 best for BOTH seafood specialties. In December 2015, a new Beach Plum opened at the Brickyard Square Plaza, 24 Calef Highway (Route 125),Epping,NH. That location shares the same menu as this Portsmouth location.

“Excellent Seafood!”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

We return again and again for the food here. The haddock sandwich is always crispy and tasty, but you have to try the lobster rolls! They are huge no very tasty. Not the best LB around nor the cheapest, but still worth a try. Their ice cream is excellent too! A great place for the whole family!

“OLF FASHIONED ROADSIDE FEED”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

If you are looking for an old fashioned but up to date roadside experience you'll love this place. The food menu is varied and contains all the "stuff" necessary to break your diet as well as plenty to maintain the waistline if you desire. Fair pricing is always in the menu, We had tried most everything they serve and there is a real effort lent to careful preparation and quality. The seafood is as good as anywhere. The ice cream is Richardson's and the salads are large and fresh. (React burgers and still serving the old fashioned long dogs. 5th staff is well trained and always has a smile. As they say, "try it you'll like it". It is not a tourist trap. We ought to know as we have eaten ther at least 30 times over five years.

“Usually a 5 Star”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

This was probably our 12th visit. We love it and look forward to it every season. Went last week and it was disappointing. All I can think is they opened before truly being ready. Ordering took too long, people were waiting 15 minutes for food and there were 4 people in line. They didn't have the stuffed clams, the broccoli cheddar soup was delivered cold and the place just looked run down. Normally it's clean and crisp and freshly painted and there are beautiful flowers everywhere. Not this trip. It sure needs sprucing up and they need some help taking and delivering orders. The lobster rolls here are pricier than others, but always worth it. They're loaded with lobster meat. Not only that, you look out onto the beach there! We'll be back, but hope it's back to the standards that we're accustomed to seeing there.

“Excellent lobster roll”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

This is not the best LR I have ever ate, but it is up there. They are not cheap, but it is worth it. Other food I saw in the dining room looked well prepared also. I will be back.
