“Super restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

Mombo is a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful setting w terrific food. The atmosphere is lively. The dishes are unique and delicious. Our waiters in our two recent meals were perfect. This is our favorite Portsmouth restaurant in a town known for great restaurants. The restaurant sits next to Strawberry Banke w a large parking lot. There is a large bar area.

“Very Special for Special Occasions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

We went there for the first time to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary but we shouldn't have waited so long, maybe for our 35th! We have visited most of the white table cloth restaurants in the Portsmouth and we felt Mombo excelled in all areas and would top the list for terrific dining. My wife had the scallop dish and she loved it. I feasted on the Atlantic salmon and was not disappointed. Oh yes, we did have apps, a tuna and a bouillabaisse, exquisite! Even the bread was noteworthy, mini ciabatta baked on premisis. We split desert, they have their own pastry chef and it wax a great way to cap the evening. Our waiter was a young man, Devon, who was attentive bug not pretentious. Great dining experience!

“Unbelievably Creative!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We visited Mombo in Portsmouth, NH with friends who were visiting from NYC. A friend from NH had recommended this restaurant to us, and we are SO glad we took her advice! The restaurant is attractive, though there are many others that are, too. But the food - so many unusual pairings of flavors! Exciting new tastes arrived with every course. There were 4 of us, each ordering differing dishes, and we raved about every single one! It is a bit pricey, but the quality of the food merits the cost, so we think it was a good value. The executive chef must have spent a great deal of time considering his recipes and flavor pairings to arrive at such a unique approach to the selected ingredients. Check out the menu on their website - then go there. You will not be disappointed!

“Time after time, still the favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

My husband and I often dine at Mambo's at the sous bar, but tonight we actually dined at a upstairs table with another couple and the experience was still amazing. We started with a cocktail outside and lounged by the firepit. Then we were placed upstairs and allowed to visit the wine cellar. The server couldn't have been more accommodating and knowledgeable. We seem to have the uncanny timing of going on the day when they are introducing a new menu. What we missed in with the chef conversations, the server made up for with suggestions. Each meal was great but the short ribs were especially sensational. But we are still waiting on the beef brisket to make a come back.

“Birthday dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

A dinner at Mombo was a really wonderful experience! While waiting for the starter we were served delicious breads, butter and olive oil, then a tapas style starter to share that was amazing. Main course of lamb with quinoa and mushrooms. Everything fantastic and perfectly seasoned. We had a table next to a window looking out at Prescott Park which at this time of year (Aug.) is beautiful. The service was excellent and although the restaurant was almost full on a Tues. night we didn't find the noise level high. The other writer must have been unlucky.
