“2013 is off to a good start”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

While I am a fan of BG's simply because it has become a tradition (of sorts) in our family, I'm allowing myself an objective review of a proven eatery.
The Location is superb. It's not easy to get to BG's. One has to make it a destination to experience the tradition.
The Staff is consistent. Granted, it was the first weekend of the season but everyone greeted us with a friendly "Hello" and a smile.
The Food remained among the best on the 'coast. Their fried offerings (oysters, haddock and onion rings) are the same as ever - outstanding.
The Beverages are poured generously. We sat in the crowded bar (3pm on a dull gray Saturday) and enjoyed a little libation. All regulars and locals - testament to an enduring Go-To place.
The Prices are fair and reasonable.
I've recommended colleagues drive from Boston to visit BG's without reservation. The food is always fresh and tasty. The view is exceptional. Parking is always easy.

“Waterfront restaurant.”

Great spot for a casual bite to eat on the water. It has what you would expect for a casual dockside bar and restaurant. Good seafood, decent bar, great location on the water.

“BG's only gets better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

My current family, my folks, and grand folks have been eating at BG's since they opened. The clam and seafood chowders, and variety of seafood dishes have always been worth the trip when in town or passing through. I sometimes visit Portsmouth ( 3X/yr), or pass through on my way to and from Bangor,ME. I always stop at BG's, and often call ahead to friends in town to have them join me. Never a poor meal or poor server. The best.

“The Stress Just Melts Away”

This is a great place to have a drink and contemplate the waterfront and the surrounding boats. They have a full menu--but they lean toward the sea, as you would suspect. So plan on excellent chowder, fried and baked fish, burgers and fries. You can eat in the dining room, out on the patio/dock or in the bar. We have generally stopped in at the bar, and can tell you they have a good beer selection and some great bartenders, so I figure, why sit outside?

“Aùerage Bar Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

We heard good things about BG's Boathouse. Ambiance was good; food was average. Expected a more authentic seafood experience, but menu didn't offer anything new. Usual crabcakes and fried bar food. Good location in the middle of town. Parking was challenging in downtown Portsmouth; recommend using the city's parking garage.
