“Small overcrowded rooms - Horrible view”
Reviewed August 5, 2008

While the hotel itself is very nice, the rooms are small and overcrowded. We booked a room with two double beds and had very little room to move around. The harborview room was a waste of money -- our room overlooked the scrapyard and an enormous pile of road salt. The food at the restaurant was good, but the service was rushed.

Although the staff was lovely, the location convenient, and the rooms very comfortable, we believe that we were bitten by bedbugs during our stay. Both myself and my baby woke up with bites.

ShariPortsmouth, Hotel Manager at Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel, responded to this review, August 4, 2008
Thank you for your nice comments about our staff and hotel, we enjoyed having you as our guests in July.
As you know, we throughly inspected your room after your report to us of a problem and found no indication of any bedbugs. In addition, we brought in an outside company to inspect your room and adjacent rooms, and they also found no trace.
We have had no other reports, before or after your stay, of such of a problem.
Of course, we feel badly that you attribute your conditon to your stay with us and we hope that you will consider staying with us again.

My husband and I haven't been away together in over six years, so this was our 'weekend getaway'. We love the Portsmoth area so we booked a night at the Sheraton Haborside in Portmoth NH. We had a wonderful time! The staff working at this particular hotel were so incredibly pleasant and helpful that our time spent here was nothing less than a pleasant and stressfree VACATION.

The pool was heated and everything we wanted to see and do was in walking distance. The restaurant in the hotel itself was so outstanding that we decided to not venture out to eat at all. We had our 3 meals there. Sunday brunch was all you can eat for a very reasonable price, and the chef himself made "cook to your order" omlets right there in front of you.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to get away for one or many nights at a time. The entire staff did an amazing job making this stay at home mom feel like a Queen for the weekend. Thank you so very much for everything!

Sincerely
Cristina Canny

The Sheraton Harborside Hotel is in a perfect location to explore the beautiful city of Portsmouth. My one complaint is that they claim that they are a pet friendly hotel yet when you get there, they are rude and obnoxious about your pet being there. They go through a long ordeal about your pet making noise yet our dog didn't make a peep even when other guests were screaming and yelling at 3:00 in the morning. I would recommend the hotel mainly because it is in a perfect location and the rooms are nice.

This was my third extended stay of five days or more at the Sheraton Harborside in the last three years or so. The rate was considerably less than the Hilton Garden which is about a block or two away (which I have also stayed) and the location is great. The room I was originally given had a funky smell coming from sections of the carpet which was handled by giving me another room that smelled clean. Problem resolved.
The next issue I had was being charged $6 per night for parking in the lot across the street which had a gate that was always up, allowing the public to park for free and walk into town while I was being charged on top of the hundreds of dollars I was spending for my stay. When I politely stated my case at check out, the person behind the counter made a bit of a stand but her points were weak and she proceeded to go to her manager for instruction. She came back out and lifted the parking charge from my bill. Problem resolved.
I will certainly forgive issues if they are handled in a polite manner without delay which shows genuine concern from the hotel. Because they did this I will be back if the rate structure is similar. Had they not been responsive, I would pay the extra and stay at the Hilton Garden in the future. All in all a comfortable hotel and good value for what I paid.

We stayed at the Sheraton Portsmouth for 2 nights in June, 2008. Our stay was great, with no complaints at all. They have plenty of parking available, and checkin was pleasant. They have a grand piano in the lobby that someone plays in the evenings, so that made the meals in the restaurant even more pleasant. The food was great-we had 2 breakfast buffets and one dinner there. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The location of the hotel makes it very easy to explore Portsmouth on foot. We enjoyed walking around the town, checking out the stores and restaurants. It is a very pleasant place to visit-this was our 3rd time in Portsmouth, but the first time at the Sheraton. We will definitely return to the Sheraton if we are in the area again.
