“Great experience, Great town”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth. The staff were so nice to us and made our stay effortless from start to finish. The room was clean and the king size bed was extremely comfortable. We had a harbor view and a delicious and unhurried breakfast. The location was great. We were able to park our car in the garage and walk through charming Portsmouth. The whole experience was great and we truly look forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: Because of the location of the hotel, it would appear that all the rooms have a good aspect.

My stay @ the sheraton portsmouth hotel was great! the rooms where very clean and the beds where comfortable. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The food in the resturant was great and also the service in the resturant. I like to come to portsmouth to hang out with freinds and family and to enjoy all the historic site. I will always come back to the beautiful Sheraton Portsmouth Hotel!

Location is great, 1-2 blocks from downtown Portsmouth. Staff is very friendly, indoor pool good quality. We got a good AAA rate for a townhouse, which is just across the courtyard from the main entrance (30 feet walk). Townhouse was a 1 bedroom, 2 level unit with full kitchen. Quality was not up to a typical Sheraton (seems like a time share), but acceptable. Most townhouse units require using stairs. We had to sign an agreement when checking in about our use of the townhouse, which makes it seem like they've had instances of big parties in these units. Oddly, this is a one bedroom with a twin cot only, and the cot is upstairs near the bedroom, so everyone would need to sleep in the same room. Plus, the hotel said there was no way to get another cot in. (Hotel receptionist claimed the cost was full-sized but this is incorrect.) Also note that the bedroom has no doors, so it lacks some privacy.

Nearby Residence Inn is perhaps not as nice but offers real one bedroom suites with pull-out sofas for less money.

The Sheraton Harborside in Portsmouth, NH is a top notch hotel in downtown Portsmouth. You get excellent accomodations for a price that is very competitive given the strategic location, which is walking distance from all the best restaurants, bars and shops in historic Portsmouth. I also had an occation to get breakfast in the retaurant on the main floor just passed the elegantly decorated lobby; the food and the service were both fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

I stay in Portsmouth regularly on business and though there are many other options for accomodations from B & B's to large hotel chains in town (which I have tried) I keep coming back to (and just love) this hotel. The staff and their enthusiam really make this hotel really special. The location is perfect- in the heart of downtown within walking distance to everything. They are always willing to go the extra mile, always pleasant and welcoming!

New Year’s Eve was coming and we planned a stay at the Sheraton. It was a first for my boyfriend and me. We choose this hotel for the reputation of being a Sheraton and it being on the Starwood Preferred Guest website. The other draw was that the comedy show was going to be there in the Grand Ballroom.
We made our reservations for the hotel, the show and also dinner at the Harbor’s Edge Restaurant.
Perfect….don’t even have to leave the hotel.
We arrived and a very friendly woman greeted us at the front desk. We checked in and we were on our merry way. When we got to our room, my boyfriend stated that he had gotten what was deemed as a “Romance Package” and he expected to see something in our room. It did come, but 3 hours later it showed up! Luckily we were actually in our room by that time. After check out we went and had a bite to eat and walked around for a bit. It was nothing that couldn’t have been there when we arrived. It was a bottle of champagne and a bag of Lindt Chocolates. When they delivered it to the room, on the cart with everything on it, they broke one of the glasses! The package wasn’t very impressive. To top it off, the chocolates were expired by 8 months! So, when they returned to vacuum the broken glass and bring up a new glass we showed it to delivery person. He promptly took care of it and returned with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries! Those were fresh and very yummy.
Dinner reservations were for 7pm and I had made them about 5 weeks prior to arriving. When we arrived we were told that there was nothing available for us due to the diners just seeming to be taking their time and lingering. Okay…so we waited. Well we ended up waiting for about 30-35 mins and we went over to the hostess and asked the status. She couldn’t apologize enough for the wait and said that the table should be clearing soon since the patrons were in fact starting to leave. When we were seated, the hostess came over and said that drinks or appetizers were on them for the wait. Wonderful! We order our food/drinks. Everything was very good.
One other disappointment was we had breakfast included with our room. We would have LOVED to have gotten breakfast in our room but decided to just go with what was provided. When we went down to eat, we were at a loss of where to go….what to do. So, we approached the guest services desk. When we asked the woman behind the counter she was perplexed that we had never been given our “ticket” for our breakfast. Off we went with ticket in hand to eat. There was a room that was set aside with an entire breakfast buffet and staff waiting to make you waffles, omelets and a carving station. But…no lines….no people. Something seemed off but hey what did we know with no direction from anyone. So, we started filling our plates and sat down. To make a long story short….we was in the wrong place. All those tables were reserved. But, they were very accommodating and let us sit and took care of us. After we were just about done eating, they came with a slip to sign and this is where that “ticket” would come in. On the ticket…it said “Good for Harbor’s Edge Restaurant or In Room Dining”. WHAT? We could have had that breakfast in our room after all?? VERY discouraging. Just another “disconnect” with the process.
When we checked out after we were done eating, we were asked, per usual, how everything was. We told them exactly how we felt and how there just seem to be this HUGE disconnect between us and them and amongst themselves. She couldn’t apologize enough for our woes and she realized that my boyfriend was a Starwood Preferred Guest so she put 1000 points onto his account for our troubles.
One would ask…would you stay here again? Sure! The hotel itself was just fine. Location, etc. it was just miscommunication. We learned from this experience to ASK, ASK, ASK as many questions in regards to anything promised or purchased. The Sheraton could really sharpen up their skills in this department. We have stayed at other hotels in the region, had specialty packages and all was spot-on! For the money paid for the room and extras one SHOULDN’T have to babysit anything really.

Dear CMC_2012,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with this valuable feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies for your New Year's Eve experience. Things happen, of course, but this is unacceptable. We expect every guest's stay to be seamless and we obviously missed the mark.

While we are glad to hear in each situation, our staff apologized appropriately, we will be sharing these comments and discussing as a team how these mistakes can be avoided in future situations.

Please know this is far from our standard service experience at Sheraton Portsmouth and we hope to have a chance to welcome you back and give you the stay you would expect.

With warm regards,
Sheraton Portsmouth

We planned a last minute trip to visit Portsmouth for some shopping and good times. While booking the room there was little availability for the room we prefered. Upon arrival the Director Of Operations Steve Merrill "made it happen". We stayed in a wonderfull room and enjoyed a great night and following day in town. When getting ready to leave we found that Steve took the time to clean off our vehicle from the snow storm that had just occured on his own accord, another example of the customer service that made our stay very enjoyable. All the staff from the front desk on goes the extra step to make sure your stay is a great one.
HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!
