Owner description: Kids will love exploring this retired 1953 U.S. Navy submarine which served as a test bed for other submarine systems and now gives visitors a feel for the tight quarters, tiny berths and general submarine lifestyle.
Reviewed October 2, 2013

While it looks like a beached whale along the side of the road the Albacore is uniquely set up for visiting with touching encouraged. Going through it takes about 20 minutes and if you have not been in a sub this is a good place to see how cramped it is inside

The museum was a bit small, but it was nice to go explore the submarine on our own. There were not a lot of visitors when we went so we had the whole submarine for us to explore as long as we wished.

The Museum was cool. The staff in the gift shop was very nice and helpful. My daugther had to purchase a USS Albacore "Dixie Cup" hat. She proceeded to wear it around all over Portsmouth.

Always wanted tos top in and see what this was about. Take an hour or two and pull off the I-95 to see what the Albacore exibit is all about. Easy to navigate, fun to see and remarkable history from the submarine class ships that were so dominant a feature in our world wars.

This submarine is in perfect condition, like the day she was put in the water. Very unique submarine because she never carried a weapon nor had any torpedo tubes. Self guided tour lets you learn about this very special boat at your own pace.
