Owner description: Kids will love exploring this retired 1953 U.S. Navy submarine which served as a test bed for other submarine systems and now gives visitors a feel for the tight quarters, tiny berths and general submarine lifestyle.

This submarine is complete just as when it was commissioned in the US Navy. It is a GREAT tourist attraction.

This is a two year late review, but well worth the stop if your visiting Portsmouth, NH. This sub is a great experience for anyone who has never walked through a submarine before, like myself. To see all the engineering and technology that went into the sub back in the day it was designed was unbelievable. My wife and I stop by each and every time we pass the sub for a tour. It is well worth the minimal entry charge for a history lesson.

This submarine is so much fun to walk around in. A self guided tour makes for a great experience. Take your time inside, press buttons to hear information about certain rooms or things. Kids love this place. FUN FUN FUN, worth a trip for something different!

The museum is kind of out of the way, but if you find it you will enjoy what it has to offer.

The entrance fee is minimal, and well worth the experience. Children will have a lot of fun climbing through the submarine and pretending to be the captain.

I would highly recommend taking the time to visit, with or without kids. Really good history with this museum.

While in Portsmouth we drove by the USS Albacore and decided to pull in just to take a look. We eventually decided to buy tickets to go inside, more so to support the museum. However I was really glad we went in. It is a self guided tour but along the way there are kiosk where you can hit an audio button and get a little information on the ship or section you are in. We went through and really enjoyed ourselves. Lots of great photo opportunities as well.
