“Interesting food and fun setting”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

I like the salads, the wine and the unique setting with historic mill boiler and piping exposed. Service is competent and friendly and the ambiance is fun.

“Unfortunately, a very bad experience.”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

My mother and I went to the Common Man Spa (which was excellent) and then here for lunch. When we went into the restaurant area, there was no one there to seat us and it was pretty empty when we first got there (this was right at about noon on a Saturday, so that should have given us a clue). We found a person to seat us and our waitress walked by and said she would be right with us. She did come by a few minutes later and took our order and got our sodas. My mother ordered a Caesar salad to start with and their chicken finger app. for her meal. I ordered their prime rib sandwich and we ordered their poutine for an app. Our app. came out about 20 minutes later and it was not too bad, the fries were a bit undercooked, but still edible. It then took one hour for our meals to come from when our app. was served and my mother never got her salad until her meal came. It was a very strange experience, the waitress would disappear for 15 minutes at a time and didn't check on us or explain what the delay was. At one point we were able to see her through the kitchen door just standing there doing nothing for a long time. The food itself was not very good. The prime rib tasted like it had been heated in the microwave, the salad was very, very fishy (which I know some people do like), the chicken tenders were o.k., they looked and tasted like the flat frozen kind you can get in the supermarket. We both really like Common Man restaurants, so this was a huge disappointment. We had to flag the waitress down to get our check and noticed two other parties had to do the same (one of which was very irritated). We will never go back, but I do recommend the spa, just eat elsewhere.

“Great dining experience”

Old papermill setting. Very unique dining experience. Good food and fun time. Reasonable prices. Good service. Plenty of parking out back. They also have function rooms available for any special occasion.

“Awesome decor and a brand new menu!”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

We've been to the boiler room before but not in several years because the menu was off and didn't make sense. However, the menu has had a major overhaul with twice as much to offer and apps & entrees that make sense. The camp crackers, salads and shrimp/lobster alfredo were very good - the clam chowder is average, not homemade. The decor is so cool except the staff must dread long shifts. Highly recommended now that the menu is much better.

“great food... not enough staff...”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

I normally enjoy common man owned restaurants.

In this case the place was not overly busy...but their was not enough staff.

The bar tender seated us in a very nice room just away from the bar. She did her best to try to serve us and also tend bar.....but again not enough staff.

The food was tasty but not memorable.

Overall, if you are in this area, drive a few more minutes to the Ashland Common Man for a much better food experience.

I wish the common man chain would start adding staff back....I would hate to see the decline of this group
