Description: The restaurant at the 1785 Inn is located in a historic building overlooking famous mountain scenery (the 7th most photographed nature scene in the U.S.) A travel guide newsletter recently called it "One of the top 15 views in the world from a hotel or inn." All meals are cooked to order with the freshest possible ingredients (in spring/summer/fall the vegetables & herbs come from their own gardens or local farms). The service is friendly and the wine list is extensive (has received the "Award of Excellence" for 25 consecutive years from the Wine Spectator magazine). The desserts are all made at the Inn (including some that are flambed tableside). The critics have called it "an amazing value" and "the best place to stay or eat in North Conway." A relaxing luonge is also avilable for drinks, some lighter food, or one of their desserts.

We had a lovely dinner here. The dining area is quaint and cozy, and some tables have wonderful views. Most of the preparations seem old school, like Caesar salad and bananas foster prepared table side. We had the roast duck and the cod special, both of which were tasty; both were accompanied by well prepared fresh vegetables. The portions were quite large. The vanilla scallop appetizer also was good and the scallop was perfectly cooked. It was however a bit gritty, which keeps me from giving it an excellent review. The blueberry pie was delicious, and the flaming after dinner coffee was excellent, plus it was fun to watch it being prepared. Also, we enjoyed the Blueberry Cosmo and a perfectly prepared Old Fashioned, a drink that frequently is done poorly, so props to 1785 for getting it right. The service is friendly and efficient. For a more casual atmosphere, there is a large bar area with a bar menu.

We had 4 adults and 2 of the 4 were disappointed in their meal. Rabbit was overcooked for one and the other said his was just ok. The other 2 adults enjoyed their meal. Waitress was very friendly at first and then got very curt with us and then very friendly again and then curt over and over. It was like Jeckle and Hyde. At first, one of the adults in the party thought she offended waitress by splitting a meal with her daughter but the rest of us assured her that was not the issue. The blueberry pie was good and kids enjoyed ice cream. They do have a kids menu with a nice pizza. Overall the inn was quaint and we enjoyed our meal because it was quiet and we could hear each other. The room we were in had no other diners. We've had so many bad and average meals in the N. Conway area so this was a welcome change.

We had a dinner voucher for this place and after reading the menu we had to try it! Everything was excellent, from the service to the food and dessert. We even had a little history lesson on the Caesar salad. Would definitely recommend trying!

Chose this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Service was poor. Our waiter acted like we were inconveniencing him. Asked twice for butter. I ordered the half rack of lamb. Very plain and the portion was ridiculously small. 4 ribs of which 3 barely had one bite. No seasoning of any kind. The treatment we received really ruined our evening. No desire to have coffee and dessert. We just wanted to leave. The restaurant was not crowded but when I asked the waiter to take a quick pic of us he said "later. He had things to do." He then never asked later and I certainly was not about to ask again. I'm wondering if he decided we really shouldn't have been there even though we were well dressed. The view from the porch was wonderful but the restaurant could use a face lift.
